Lighty, an OSU freshman, will ?plea by way of information? in the county prosecutor's office Wednesday to a charge of assault, a first-degree misdemeanor, said Wendy A. Clawson, a spokeswoman for the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office. The plea is an admission of guilt before the case is taken to court, Clawson said.
An Ohio State athletics department spokesman said Lighty and the school will wait to comment until after Lighty enters his plea Wednesday.

Lighty and former teammates plead guilty in BB gun shooting

Ohio State University basketball player David Lighty and two of his former teammates from Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School pleaded guilty today to charges related to them shooting a jogger with a toy BB gun that fired plastic pellets.
Callahan could have hit the three 19 year olds with jail time today for their guilty pleas. Instead, the judge hit them with fines -- $250 for Lighty's conviction on a first-degree-misdemeanor count of assault, and $100 for McLeod and Rushton, who pleaded guilty to the minor misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.
All three are now 19, and they did nothing dumb in court today. They appeared as somber as their funereal suits, flanked by an armada of lawyers that included one of Ohio's most influential attorneys, Frederick Nance.
They all hung their heads as they apologized -- "to Mr. Nugent, to my family, my community and my school," as Lighty said. And they promised they'd never appear in a courtroom again, as defendants.
