SF David Lighty (Most Career Buckeye Wins, ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket - France)

David could be a huge "X-Factor" in tomorrows game. Alot of people may have forgotten what a great football player he was at VASJ before concentrating solely on hoops. If David had played football his entire HS career he probably would have been the #2 recruit in the state only behind Chris Wells in the Class of 06. He's quick, he's tough, and alot stronger than he appears. This kid isn't afraid to mix it up, and his growth in the past month or so has been incredible.

If Hunter doesn't improve it wouldn't surprise me to see Thad start David at the 4.

That is a big size matchup problem...Lighty is in no way a 4 and while Thad could go to a 4 guard lineup at times, with guys like Twig, Hunter, Madsen, KK, Lauderdale I don't see Thad not starting 2 of these guys...

Thad has always said Lighty could defend 4 positions. Lighty is a legit 6'6". I saw Oregon get by this season despite being heavily undersized. I don't think starting Lighty at the 4 is compromising much.

I understand that Lighy can defend 4 positions, but it is a mismatch against teams that have a strong PF...It also puts us in bad situations in terms of rebounding...

I would understand the move if you don't have options at the 4, but when you have guys like I mentioned above you go with them...

It's not like Lighty's going to log 30 minutes per game. I'm just saying he would start. If we go up against big guys like Florida's then of course we would adapt and put in Hunter, Madsen, or Terwilligger but I doubt we'll be facing many 6'10" or 6'11" PF's.

Shit, it completely slipped my mind that Koufos is coming next year. If Oden leaves who would he start at the 5? Koufos and Hunter don't seem like centers to me and Lauderdale doesn't seem ready to immediately start.

I don't see any reason why Lighty doesnt get some major minutes, but see them coming off the bench...With us having a 4 man rotation with Conley, Butler, Cook, and Conley...Not really sure what to expect from Diebler, Turner, and Wallace as frosh, but minutes are going to be hard to come by if those first 4 are all here next season, b/c they have all proved that they need to see a lot of minutes next year...

Matta like the big 4 guy with perimeter skills that presents mismatches...I think Hunter, Madsen, KK give this to Matta in terms of being able to step to the high post or outside and hit the 3 ball...

Shit, it completely slipped my mind that Koufos is coming next year. If Oden leaves who would he start at the 5? Koufos and Hunter don't seem like centers to me and Lauderdale doesn't seem ready to immediately start.

We will see some 5 guard type offense, with an open post, besides when Twig and Lauderdlae log minutes...They are the only true Post players, but Twig has proven that he can step out and hit the jumper and play the game of the 4 man...

Anyway you look at it, Next years team has so much versatility in terms of what they will be able to do and can present matchup problems for just about any team in the country...

If Oden were to stay it would be insane in terms of the matchup problems we could present against teams, if Oden played the 5 and KK at the 4...

Don't write off Madsen so easily. He goes up against Oden every day in practice so you must have some defensive skills and I know for a fact that he has offensive skills. Plus, you have to realize that he also has one year of playing college basketball under his belt. It's not like he is coming in as a freshman.

Didn't Madsen RS at Vandy? I don't think he ever played a game.

The point about him playing against Oden every day is an excellent one.

Back to David, he will be huge for us next year. If he can bring his perimeter shooting around he will be a very valuable cog and with his seemingly always excellent attitude could be a leader for this team.

I think you are correct but he still practiced against college players.
Regarding David, I think he will play some 3 and some 4. I don't think he is strong enough to play the 4 position but as we all know it is all about match ups. He also used to work on his outside shooting but then again he will have all summer to work on that.

David Lighty's Tournament Thoughts

Wednesday, April 04, 2007

Ohio State freshman David Lighty, a Villa Angela-St. Joseph grad, let us in on his first NCAA Tournament experience peri odically during the Buckeyes' race to the NCAA championship game.
After averaging 16 minutes, 3.6 points and 2.2 rebounds during the regular season, Lighty averaged 18 minutes, 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in six tournament games. He fell just short of a title once again, after losing in the Division III state title game in high school last season.
These were his final words following Ohio State's 84-75 loss to Florida on Monday night.

"Getting there is good, but we wanted to win. That was our whole mission. It's really disappointing for the seniors because they don't get a chance to come back. So I'm sad for them we didn't complete our mission. It's a great experience for us coming into next year. We have another good group coming in, so hopefully we can just get them on board and we're hoping to make another run next year and win a national championship.

Continued......

Ya, no joke. That would be amazing. It seems like that tandem alone could score enough points to win games, and then add on top of it that our guard play isnt exactly too shabby either . I can't wait to see how our offense evolves in the off season. It seems that adding a big guy like Kosta who can hit 3s, is going to add a whole other dimension to the offense.
