Fiutak's Senior Bowl notes. True to form, he takes every chance he can get to rip the Buckeyes, including taking shots at TS and Datish, and not even mentioning Pitcock on the D-line. He never says that these notes were from observations he made at the practices in Mobile, and something tells me that he's just selectively reading various reports online and spinning the results according to his own biases. IMO, he's pathetic.

Below is what he said about Smith and Datish, both comments hardly resemble him ripping on either player. Perhaps in the same fashion that you rip this writer for dogging Ohio State, you should take off your scarlet colored glasses and quit thinking that every comment written in the press is a jab against OSU's program. It get's old......

Troy Smith, Ohio State - At the end of the regular season, some were suggesting Smith might be a top ten pick if everything broke the right way. After an awful game against Florida, he needed to be lights-out in Mobile. While fine and certainly not bad, he hasn't been special. His arm has been average and the height issue has been a factor.

Three cooling off prospects ... UTEP QB Jordan Palmer (could've made a big statement this week and moved up, and didn't), Ohio State C Doug Datish (in an average year for centers, he hasn't stood out), Notre Dame WR Rhema McKnight (turning out to be slow, average, and not anywhere near the first round talent he was hyped to be at times this year)

Smith's arm is anything but average....

Maybe you need to reread my post. My point was that because it appears Fiutak hasn't attended Senior Bowl practices and accordingly is not writing based on personal observation, he is selectively compiling information in a way that doesn't give OSU players the credit that most other sources have given them (see Scout's and nfldraftcountdown.com's evaluations of Smith). That's biased (and therfore poor) reporting IMO. Get off your soapbox.

I agree. You should watch him throw the ball up here from the soap box that I'm on. :wink2:

FWIW, I guess I just find it puzzling as to why people get so pissed off about little stuff said about players from their team. Sure, I think Smith will be an excellent NFL QB, and I think Datish will play for a long time in the league. I'm just saying that I take most writer's views with a grain of salt. It's for pure entertainment value, nothing more. It's not like scouts, coaches, and GM's actually read through those columns and are swayed by what these pundits say about a particular player. I have a cousin who is the head scout for a particular NFL team, his word is about the only one that I'll take when it comes to evaluation of potential talent.

I guess it just takes a little more than a generic article to ruffle my feathers.

NFL Draft Countdown - Thursday
As he has been all week Ohio State's Troy Smith was once again the top quarterback on the North roster, showcasing a great arm by throwing 20 yard ropes and also what appeared to be strong hands
...
One of the standouts of the day along the defensive line was Quinn Pitcock of Ohio St., who was quick off the snap, plays with a lot of energy and has a tremendous motor.

Also, Cleveland has been observing Troy for two straight days

He's a bit harsh, but it isn't like Fiu is ever truly right about these things anyway....
