Gruden post-game gushed about Troy and what he brings to the field.
At some point this game of trying to devalue a player's worth will be done, and the choice will be back in the hands of those who matter, the GMs of this world. Then Troy will get his break, fair, twisted or otherwise, he will make the most of that chance.

Exactly. Troy will have a chance to prove himself in the NFL. A year or two from now this will all be an afterthought. He just has to prove himself once again, much like he did early on in his career at OSU. I think Troy plays much better when he's out to prove the naysayers wrong.

10 thoughts about the Senior Bowl

Sunday, January 28, 2007

1. When you see a player in a Buckeyes helmet do a sack dance, it's a special occasion. Ohio State's David Patterson pulled one out Saturday, sort of a running-in-place thing after his second sack of the day. The biggest criticism of Patterson this week was his lack of size after he weighed in at 274 pounds. But he made the best of that in the game, using spin moves to break free and repeatedly apply pressure.

Pouring It On

Nice "ebb and flow" style write up of the game yesterday. Hosted at the Tampa Bay Bucs site.

Pouring It On
Jan 27, 2007 -

Not even the chilly rain that fell steadily over Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Saturday in Mobile, Alabama could cool off the North All-Stars in the 2007 Senior Bowl.

Led by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? coaching staff, the North took the field with a palpable energy and then quickly took control of the game en route to a 27-0 blanking of the South All-Stars.

The North wasted little time making a statement in the 58th annual Senior Bowl, going on a nine-play, 75-yard drive touchdown march on the game?s opening possession. By the time the first half was finished, the North was up 20-0 and was showing even less signs of letting up than the coastal Alabama downpour.

After the half the contest turned sloppy, mainly due to the wet weather conditions, which led to 12 total fumbles and a stunted passing game from both sides. Still, the North managed to increase its lead in the second half, ultimately claiming a lopsided victory over a South team led by the San Francisco 49ers? staff.

The shutout was the result of an impressive performance by the North on both sides of the ball, as they out-gained the South in total yards, 264-93.

Penn State running back Tony Hunt was named the game?s most valuable player, rushing eight times for 39 yards and one touchdown. The North offensive MVP went to Michigan State quarterback Drew Stanton and the defensive MVP was awarded to Michigan cornerback Leon Hall. South players recognized were Auburn offensive lineman Ben Grubbs (South offensive MVP) and Ole Miss linebacker Patrick Willis (South defensive MVP).

Led by Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith, the Heisman Trophy winner who started the game, the North offense took to the air early, passing on five of the game?s first seven plays. After missing on his first two attempts, Smith connected on a nice out pattern by East Carolina wide receiver Aundrae Allison for 15 yards and a first down.

A few thoughts on this game...

A little pressure on Leak and he folds like a cheap suit. Ugh! Nuff said.

Southern speed myth again put down. They will claim it was the sloppy field conditions.

It looked like the Big 10 vs the SEC. Seriously, I think the entire South starting D was from the SEC. Big 10 whooped ass.

There has been a lot of Leon Hall bashing on this site. He looked good in this game. FWIW.

Troy was the only QB who looked like a leader in this game. It was great to see him smiling.

Senior Bowl Stock Watch

MOBILE, Ala.
Senior Bowl week began with overcast skies, wet conditions and a lot of anxious faces at the downtown Mobile Convention Center. Included in that group was Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, the Ohio State quarterback who had the week's first highlight when he came away smiling after measuring right at 6-foot tall.

During the first three days of practice, there were key opportunities to evaluate the players as the large majority of scouts, coaches and media left town prior to Saturday afternoon's game. In fact, most teams start their pre-combine meetings on Monday so a few days of rest are needed. But that time is likely to be spent evaluating the list of underclassmen and checking out the game and practice tapes from the past few all-star games. [Cont]
