A good showing by the Buckeyes.

Troy did not look good, and didn't have good stats, but, a) no QBs looked really good, and he at least handled the snaps (the only one he bobbled, he made the handoff--everyone else had multiple muffed snaps); and b) he led the North to 17 of their 27 points (Stanton had 7; Palko had 3). Overall, perhaps not Heismanesque, but (along with Stanton maybe) the best QB on the field.

David Patterson had a great game. Where did that spin move come from? One official sack (hell, I'd give him 2) and several pressures. But, David, that sack dance was lame--you wouldn't do that at tOSU, you don't need it in the NFL. Just play like you play.

Quinn Pitcock had a solid, if not spectacular, game. Saw a pretty good spin move out of him, also. Not bad for a guy they've said is not terribly athletic. He was plugging some holes.

Datish was solid as a rock at both RG and LG. Had several pancakes. Commentators were impressed with Troy's block on the reverse, but Datish's was better and more instrumental to the success of the play. His guy never got pressure on the QB (however, he was holding like crazy the one play when Stanton (or Palko--can't remember) was flushed from the pocket).

Overall, a good day for our Buckeyes. And the North wins again.

I think the media is generally anti-tOSU. Anyways, when was the last time a Heisman dropped to the 2nd round if in fact Troy does fall that low?

Chris Weinke dropped even lower. Jason White wasn't drafted. The media is certainly not anti-OSU. They are pro Notre Dame but that is about it.

I am going to step away from the moment from the current thrust of the thread - which seems to be "find the Mr. Irrelevant Heisman Trophy Winner." Instead, I'll convey the first of the press reports on the game. It takes the angle of the QB duel, between Smith and Leak -revisited if you will.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) -- This time, Troy Smith was smiling after the game.
The Ohio State star outplayed Florida's Chris Leak in a rematch of quarterbacks from the national championship game, leading the North to three scores and a 27-0 win over the South in the Senior Bowl on Saturday.
Smith's numbers weren't spectacular on a cold, rainy day. He completed only five of 15 passes for 52 yards with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Washington State's Jason Hill.
But the Heisman Trophy winner made fewer mistakes than Leak, who had a fumble that led to a quick touchdown for the North.
"Just getting a win today meant a lot," said Smith, grinning widely as raindrops pelted his helmet. "I feel pretty good, but there's always room for improvement."

Continued ...

The rest of article is similar - casting Troy as the clear "winner" in the QB stakes, Leak, and others, as the losers.

Nice to see Troy get some good ink after the BCS game. Tough break for Leak, whose stock just went down even further. In truth, it is only fair to give additional credit were it is due. For, as good as the North D line was, the South O line has to be getting some sideways glances now from the scouts. Especially bad news for any left tackle wearing a red shirt today.

The south O-line, for those interested comprised the likes of Blalock (TX), Sears (Tennessee), Wrotto (Georgia Tech), Ugoh (Arkansas).

Wonder if Mel will still have Ugoh at #16 (and rising) on his big board come next week?

ESPiN on Senior Bowl

TS is still #5 QB on the board

"Winners"
Tony Hunt (MVP, moved up to 2nd rounder)
Patrick Willis (led everyone with 11 tackles, top ILB now)

"Losers"
Leak (sucked, fumbled, etc.)
Darby (RB, 'Bama -- dropped a pass and all around sucked)

McShay says both Leak and Darby dropped to the 2nd day (were they ever 1st day prospects ?)

My take:
Biggest Winners were the North DL, Hunt, Leonard, Hill (all for obvious reasons) and Leon Hall (because his DL owned the south, he was never legitimately tested. Thus his ill-found hype has survived to live another day)

Biggest Losers were the South OL(obvious) and all the WRs (never got a real chance to get some catchable balls)

Can't remember where I read it, but old Testeverde threw 5 picks in his last college game and still got drafted #1. Guess not every Heisman winner falls so badly after one bad game (especially when you're 6'5").

I do believe you hit the nail on the head. The other factor is that he's a "running QB."

IMO, guys like Kiper have been chomping at the bit to "drop" Troy Smith in their estimation. The 8th gave them that chance, and now they'll throw today's stats onto the pile. (Despite the fact that his stats weren't that bad compared to everyone else on the field today...)
