Sooners hitting the recruiting trail looking for offensive linemen
Dec 19:14AM ET
By Tim Griffin
Recruiting is heating up across the Big 12 as the regular season finishes up. It's one of the reasons why I can't wait for my Tuesday updates from Tom Luginbill, the national recruiting director for ESPN's Scouts Inc.
Here are some updates involving Big 12 teams.
T Seantrel Henderson
Saint Paul, Minn.
Cretin-Derham Hall H.S.
Scouts Grade: 87
ESPNU150 Rank: 4
Position Rank: 1
No. 1-rated offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) has made official visits to Ohio State and Notre Dame and plans to visit USC this weekend and Florida the weekend of the 12th. Oklahoma was in line for his fifth visit, but that could change ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.
"Our five was our five for a reason," Seantrel's father, Sean, said. "We had our five plus the Gophers, Miami and Iowa, so with that, everybody is always still a consideration. We like everybody for different reasons and things that will benefit Seantrel. We're going to play it by ear. We still have three more visits we have to take before we decide in February."
The Henderson family will receive in-home visits from Minnesota, Ohio State, Iowa and Oklahoma this week.

Irish still among Henderson's eight

The reasons are long and detailed as to why and how the nation's top-ranked offensive tackle recruit, Seantrel Henderson (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), narrowed down his list of more than 40 scholarship offers.
According to the Henderson family, Notre Dame's athletic department dismissing head football coach Charlie Weis on Monday, isn't going to eliminate the Irish from future consideration.
With plenty of insight from his parents, the 6-foot-7, 295-pound Henderson has zeroed in on eight schools. Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, USC, Oklahoma, Miami, Iowa and the local school Minnesota, remain in the mix. The Irish and Buckeyes have already received official visits, and USC and Florida will host him the next two weekends. Oklahoma is in line for the fifth and final visit, but that could change and go to Iowa or Miami.

The Henderson family will be paying close attention to the moves the Notre Dame makes regarding its future head coach.
"We'll definitely be monitoring real close what Notre Dame's decisions are regarding the coaching staff in the near future. All of the plusses about the school, especially where education is concerned, tradition, and the values and degree coming from Notre Dame are the strengths of the school, and why we're looking at them."
This week, the Henderson family is expecting in-home visits from Minnesota on Tuesday, Ohio State on Wednesday, and Iowa and Oklahoma later in the week. They're also looking to hear from Notre Dame and interim head coach Rob Ianello in the near future.
Henderson's father, Sean, said Weis' firing at Notre Dame "doesn't change anything as of this moment" regarding the Irish's recruitment of the 6-8, 335-pound offensive lineman. Henderson made a recruiting visit to Notre Dame two weeks ago.
"They are still among the top schools" under consideration, Sean Henderson said.
Henderson visits Southern California this weekend and won't be able to attend the Minnesota Mr. Football banquet Sunday afternoon at the Doubletree Hotel in St. Louis Park. He is among 10 finalists for the award.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and his brother-assistant Dick Tressel will make a home recruiting visit to Henderson today.

Cretin’s Henderson named Player of Year
By: Dave Campbell, The Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS — Seantrel Henderson was born a month early. It didn’t take his body long to catch up.
After growing into a 6-foot-8, 330-pound mountain of a left tackle, the not-quite-18-year-old Henderson completed a prolific career with Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul with a Class 5A state championship.
Henderson and teammate Shea Walker helped block for a powerful offense led by quarterback Mark Alt that amassed well over 5,000 yards this season. Ranked by multiple scouting services as the top recruit in the class of 2010, Henderson was named the Minnesota Associated Press Player of the Year on Tuesday. It’s believed to be the first time the annual award has gone to a lineman.

Sean Henderson, father of Cretin-Derham Hall's Seantrel Henderson, the Associated Press Minnesota high school football player of the year, said Wednesday that a home visit by Gophers coach Tim Brewster and offensive line coach Tim Davis on Tuesday evening "went great."
"Minnesota's our home school; coach Brewster has been following Seantrel since he was a freshman and actually was the first coach to offer him a scholarship," Sean said. "So we'll always have a lot of respect for coach Brewster and the Gophers program."
The elder Henderson said Brewster emphasized the importance of staying home during the 2 1/2-hour meeting at the Hendersons' South Minneapolis home.
"He said that everything's here for Seantrel and how big and important it would be to the people of Minnesota if he stayed home," Sean said. "He said that the Gophers are building something now and they wanted him with them to win a Big Ten title and possibly a national championship in the next few years."
Sean said Seantrel, who visits Southern California this weekend, still has no favorites and doesn't plan to announce his decision until Feb. 3.
Brewster followed up on Tuesday evening's visit by waking Sean up at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday to say how much he enjoyed the meeting.
Word is Southern California plans to put out the red carpet for 6-foot-8, 335-pound Cretin-Derham Hall offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson when he makes a recruiting visit this weekend during USC's nationally televised (ABC) game against Arizona.
OVERHEARD
Sean Henderson, father of Seantrel, on Gophers coach Tim Brewster waking Sean up Wednesday morning to say he enjoyed a recruiting visit to Henderson's home the night before: "That was a good follow-up. Coach Brewster's on top of the job."
Any chance with Seantrel Henderson going to UF?
— LightsOut
This guy just can’t seem to find his way to Gainesville. He was rumored to be headed to town for the FSU game and didn’t make it. Now, he’s trying to get in for a December visit. If he can get on campus on Dec. 11, then the coaches will have to feel pretty good about getting some sort of positive reaction out of him. That will be the biggest recruiting weekend left in the year. With that said, I don’t see him ever making it to town and even if he does, it will be hard to get the nation’s best offensive lineman out of the Midwest. If the Gators want any shot of landing him, he’ll have to get on campus. That’s not impossible. There’s still plenty of time and now the coaches will have much more time with recruits once they get on campus. Urban Meyer is quite the recruiter in person, but I still think it’s an uphill battle for the Gators. As quiet as Henderson has been about recruiting this year, the only real news I’ve heard is that USC might be his leader, but he hasn’t confirmed it.

Jim Tressel is in Minnesota tonight visiting with Seantrel Henderson, the No. 1-ranked recruit in the country according to some recruiting outlets. The 6-foot-8, 330-pound offensive tackle made an official visit to Ohio State for the Buckeyes' game with USC in September. He's planning a visit to USC this weekend.
