Seahawks (ex-USC) Coach Pete Carroll (official thread)

It's nice having a coach that is in his dream job and never comes up in NFL talk. Also a coach that plays by the rules, doesn't get overstressed/burnt-out, or physically mistreat the players. The only thing to worry about with JT is that he could go JoPa on us in the very very distant future.

Also if this was false don't you think Petey would have been on SC this afternoon dismissing this? These rumors (if that's even what they are) have to be killing USC's recruiting.

Mike Riley is the leader in the clubhouse to replace him. IMO if true, Riley would be a GREAT hire...
I dunno, I don't see it. Riley's done a nice job in Corvallis, but that's with considerably less expectations. He seems like a "niche coach" and a little bumfuck town in Oregon is that niche.

USC is coming back to earth if this goes down. Sometimes, the stars just align and you get a combination like Carroll-USC, Meyer-UF, etc...just doesn't happen often. Carroll is a dynamic personality that knew how to sell a "Hollywood story" to recruits. I don't see many people like that. USC was mostly dormant for over a decade before he got there. I really think this brings USC back to earth.

Yes. Please people don't forget, especially younger ones, how firmly on the seat of their collective ass that program was before Petey took over. They sucked donkey dick during much of the 80's & 90's.

True Dat. But this is also one of the premier programs in CFB. They will land a quality coach.

From a recruiting perspective there are two issues:

1. When will they name a replacement and how quickly can he create a relationship with some of the most coveted recruits in the country?

2. How much of a factor were potential sanctions in PCs decision? And whether they were or not how well can other coaches sell the idea that they are?

Like I said earlier...they're foolish if they take Riley without going after Sarkisian. Sarkisian is a young, energetic coach that has already been a big part of that program's recent success. Riley is an older guy, seems quiet-ish, has never had to recruit like will be expected of him...that just spells disaster to me.

True but they were a premier program in CFB when they sported the .618 win % from 1980-2000 as well. They had been left for DEAD when Petey got there. I don't think its as simple as kids come to USC no matter who the coach is type thing.

Especially when you consider this part...

How much of a factor were potential sanctions in PCs decision? And whether they were or not how well can other coaches sell the idea that they are?
