Seahawks (ex-USC) Coach Pete Carroll (official thread)

Well worth the read.

Sorry Steve, that was really not worth the read. He gives Tressel some credit as a coach, which is always nice, but his basic premise that location is the end-all in college football is cliched and untrue. (And frankly I don't get how Oklahoma's Great Plains location is more like the SEC/Cal. centers-of-the-football-universe than the Midwest.) OSU has won championships and put together the best and most talented teams in America before, and they will do it again, right here in Cowtown USA.

My boss, who's a Michigan grad basically said the same thing last week. A point I have come to wonder as well, Carroll drops games he should win, and not win by a little bit, he drops games where he's 2-3 score favorites, sometimes even more and where's his adjustments in these games? One trend I noticed, was that the opponents who beat USC don't change their game plan at the half, they keep doing the same thing and PC doesn't make adjustments to stop it. Last year when Oregon State beat them, that little running back just kept going at them, all 4 quarters, shouldn't there be some adjustment to limit that type of productivity?

The only adjustment that could have been made was to tackle him lower. They were in position, but trying to tackle the top of his helmet. Their QB was worthless, so there was no reason to be worried about the pass.

Indeed. However, one huge thing that Riley did was the kick out block with James Rogders so that Jacquizz could run just inside the tackle box. That freed 'Quizz up for at least 3-4 yard starts.

I had really hoped that Tressel would incorporate some of that into the offense for the SC game. We have very good blocking receivers, and I thought it would have been very good. Anyway...

All except for the TD that was thrown to the other Rodgers, huh? Granted, Moe Vao isn't whoop ass; but he was tough and that's what was needed in that game.

Tressel outshines Carroll in college football's location nation - CBSSports.com

It's a pretty simple formula he has at OSU, recruit pretty good players... Make your schedule as weak as possible... Never leave Columbus to play in state schools...

I quoted some dipshit who commented on the article. Apparently said dipshit is unaware of the fact that we've played home/aways with Texas and USC over the last five seasons and have home/aways with Da U, Cal, Va Tech, Oklahoma, and Tennessee on the slate. Oh yeah, we just played an Ohio team away from Columbus this past Saturday. Like I said, a dipshit.

Uh, guys, sarcasm font please. ESPiN writes an article on how Tressel is a great guy, Doyel follows.

Remember this thread (link). Wait a minute, holy [censored]e, I'm being exposed as the complete wanker that I am. Better write an article supporting Tressel.

Where the hell was the support for Tressel immediately after the game.

To the rubbish heap with them all.

You'll get much better opinions and analysis right here on BP than you ever will from these posers.

And, we played Cincy the first time under Tressel at Cincy.

A quick look at any computer ranking will show that Ohio State has played an SOS ranked in the top 20 or 30 half of the years that Tressel has coached at Ohio State. A couple of years SOS has been in the top 5.

Jim Mora Jr. fired by the Seahawks. E!spn is reporting Carroll is Seattle's top target and there's said to be "strong mutual interest" and it would be a "surprise" if he doesn't end up in Seattle. It's e!spn, so obviously TIFWIW. Could be interesting...

Doesn't someone drop his name for an open NFL job every couple of years?

I'd love to see it but I don't think there is anyway in hell he's dumb enough to go back to the NFL given the abject failure he was there and the success he's had at USC.

Agreed...it is nearly an annual thing. But, I've always only heard him as a "candidate". There's pretty strong wording in this story. New administration in Seattle with $$...they might want to make a splash, and what better way than throw a boat load of cash and control at Petey? I'll believe it when I see it, but this is seemingly a little different...

Hell if its something that causes him 15 minutes of recruiting problems I'm happy.

Anything more than that is gravy.

Does the proposal include an option to bring along his grad student? If not, this is a nonstarter.
