OSU asks tailgaters to pay up

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Hundreds of Ohio State tailgaters will have to pay up or move along.

An audit showed that 426 people in six prime lots are not giving the required annual contribution of $5,000 to keep their spots.

Senior Associate Athletics Director Pat Chun says that represents about 20 percent of those parking in the lots. He says letters were sent out to "make sure that it's a level playing field."

Ticket increases and now they want people to actually fork over the donations that are required for their parking passes? What is this world coming to? :shake:

People often ask me at the lot how much it costs to get a pass for the RV lot. Here is the answer:

$5,000 donation + $90 per home game = RV parking pass. If you can get on the list.

If my math is correct, 426 is 20% of 2,130. At $5,000 a pop, that's $10,650,000 from those 2,130 people. Then, even if we have "only" seven home games, that's an additional $630 per person or about $1,342,000. That gives a grand total of just short of $12 mil a year just for RV lot usage fees. An eight home game pushes it well over $12 mil.

This is precisely why The Ohio State University can afford to field a Women's Pistol Team and a Synchronized Swimming Team.
