Scenarios for Final 2022 CFP Rankings

Big Ten boss Kevin Warren: 'Without a doubt' OSU deserves CFP spot

Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren called No. 3 Michigan's 45-23 victory over No. 2 Ohio State an "instant classic" and made the case after the game that "without a doubt" the Big Ten should end up with two teams in the College Football Playoff.

"One hundred percent," Warren told ESPN. "Clearly, Michigan and Ohio State are two of the best four teams in the country, and I think today proved it. Great football game. Epic football game. Without a doubt, I think I think they are clearly two of the best football teams in the country."
.
.
.
"This was a really good football game from start to finish," Warren said, even after Michigan out-scored Ohio State 21-3 in the fourth quarter. "These are two powerhouse teams and clearly two of the top four teams in all of college football. You look at all the games you watch. Put even the rankings to the side. If you ask yourself, who are the teams that are better than these two football teams in the country? These are two of the four best teams in the country. By far."
.
.
.
"I truly believe that through this whole season," Warren said. "Last season, this season. Today just reiterated how strong Big Ten football is. I'm excited to see these next couple weeks, where everything lands."

At least he's lobbying for us immediately. If Delaney were still there, the silence would be deafening because he'd be looking out for what's best for the Rose Bowl.

I think currently TCU is last one in and USC is first one out. Number six is either OSU or Alabama. My concern is that OSU may have dropped below Alabama with that ugly loss yesterday. If TCU and USC both lose, and TSUN wins, Alabama has a good shot at being in the CFP. It might come down to who they think will get the best ratings.

Huh? Who's in between tsun and tcu at #3. I think everyone's assumption going into championship week is:

  1. UGA
  2. tsun
  3. TCU
  4. USC
  5. OSU or Bama

The predictions that I have seen has Ohio State #4 and Alabama #5 in the new rankings. So I guess if there is some"CHAOS" (i.e. upsets) in the CCGs (especially in the PAC-12 CCG) Ohio State still has a sliver of hope of getting into the CFPs.

I really don't expect any of the top 3 to lose their CCG; however, I'd say undefeated UGA, scUM, and TCU are all still in even if they lose their CCG. The question is if USC loses their CCG which gives them 2 losses, so who gets the 4th spot?

1) is USC still in with 2 losses?
2) does a 1 loss Ohio State get in? The big thing Ohio State has going for itself is that no 2 loss team has ever made the CFPs; however, that may not be enough.
or
3) does a 2 loss Alabama get in?

If USC loses to Utah in the PAC-12 CCG you know ESPN (who owns TV rights to the CFPs) will lobby for Alabama. Alabama will probably get in as the #4 seed and it will be USC vs Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

and behind the scenes every power broker, to include Warren and Gene Smith, is happy with that because it's going to make them all the most money.

There isn't anything wrong with that. I am just pointing it out as a reminder that they don't think like fans. They aren't motivated by the same things.

UGA vs TCU and tsun vs Bama in the CFP while USC and OSU go score 150 points on each other in the Rose Bowl? They are giddy with that.

Imagine we somehow get in because someone else lost ala 2007. We find our health and our best game of the year against UGA and pull the upset. Now, also imagine TTUN loses their 2 vs 3 game. Add in that we carry on and win the NC and ttun goes home with 3rd place. Karma would allow me to gloat just a very little bit because I still will not get over yesterdays game. A run like that though might take some sting out of it

On the Alabama topic... there's no way we fall below a 2 loss Alabama. In that case with both not playing there's no way to make Alabama #4 should a team in the top 4 lose.

There's just no path for Alabama to get in unless both TCU and USC lose.

While I'm on that topic. There's a very very good chance we get the following semi final games.

Georgia vs Alabama
Michigan vs Ohio State

SEC: LSU VS. GEORGIA (-16.5)

BIG TEN: PURDUE VS. MICHIGAN (-16)

PAC-12: UTAH VS. USC (-2.5)

This could be a great rematch of one of the season's best games so far. Utah used a late 2-point conversion to edge USC 43-42 in overtime on Oct. 16, and the Trojans have not lost since. Coach Lincoln Riley and company will very likely make the CFP if they can win this game. That would be an impressive first-season turnaround for Riley.

Utah has the big edge in terms of experience in big games, as coach Kyle Whittingham is used to leading the Utes to the Pac-12 title game. Another big storyline to monitor: USC quarterback Caleb Williams could lock up the Heisman Trophy with a good performance.

BIG 12: KANSAS STATE VS. TCU (-2.5)

Everything is on the line for undefeated TCU and coach Sonny Dykes. No one expected the Horned Frogs to be at this point before the season, but all they need is a win and they will be in the CFP.

TCU beat K-State 38-28 earlier this season, but that was a home game for the Frogs and took place over a month ago. The Wildcats have won three straight games by 17 points or more, so they are playing their best football right now.

Yikes, USC and TCU are almost toss-up games. Chaos in the CFP rankings is possible. What are the odds that both TCU and USC lose and the final CFP rankings are:

1. Georgia
2. Xichigan
3. Ohio State
4. Alabama

Yeah, probably less than 1%; but it could happen...
