Scenarios for Final 2022 CFP Rankings

CFP chairman Boo Corrigan — also North Carolina State’s AD — explained the difference the committee sees between the Buckeyes and Wolverines up to this point of the regular season.

“Two well-balanced teams, both in the top 10 offensively and defensively,” Corrigan said, via ASAP Sports. “Ohio State does have the win over Notre Dame, which I believe at this point as a committee, as we talk about it, that stands out a little bit to us as we’re going through this.”

Corrigan added: “But again, two really good teams that play really hard. Both had good wins this past week over Indiana and Nebraska. There’s a reason one is 2 and one is 3 in how close they are.”

That Notre Dame win has fluctuated for the Buckeyes throughout the season. It came in the opener when the Fighting Irish were the No. 5 team in the country. Soon enough, though, Notre Dame suffered embarrassing losses to both Marshall and Stanford. That said, of late, Marcus Freeman has righted the ship in South Bend. Notre Dame has ripped off four straight victories, knocking off then-No. 16 Syracuse and then-No. 5 Clemson in the process.

At the moment, the CFP has Notre Dame at No. 18.

Meanwhile, Michigan’s lone win over a ranked opponent this season came against Penn State, which is now No. 11 in the CFP rankings. Except, Ohio State also beat the Nittany Lions. And Michigan’s non-conference schedule — a slate that consisted of Colorado State, Hawaii and UConn — just wasn’t as strong as Ohio State’s (Notre Dame, Arkansas State and Toledo).

Just sayin': He neglected to mention the obvious, "and Michigan SUCKS".......

If USC gets that second loss the loser of The Game is sitting pretty for the 4th spot.

  • USC is a paper tiger and still has to play ND and the winner of Oregon/Utah (I believe) for the PAC 12.
  • The committee clearly doesn't think much of Clemson.
  • As long as UGA doesn't fuck around and lose to LSU, and depending on how The Game ends up, the loser of it has as much of a chance as anyone else.
  • If TCU drops a game then it's almost a done deal

Updated after this week.

#01. UGA undefeated thru CCG
#02. tOSU undefeated thru CCG
#03. TTUN undefeated thru CCG (mutually exclusive with #02)
#04. TCU undefeated thru CCG
#05. UGA with 1 loss, even if it’s to LSU in CCG
#06. USC wins over ND and in CCG
#07. LSU wins out with CCG over UGA
#08. tOSU with 1 loss, in CCG
#09. TTUN with 1 loss, in CCG
#10. tOSU with an unthinkable loss
#11. TTUN with a loss in The Game
#12. Clemson wins out with CCG over UNC
#13. Tennessee with 2 losses, no CCG
#14. Bama beats Auburn, has 2 losses, no CCG
#15. TCU with a loss

So UGA is in unless they lose twice.
The winner of The Game is in unless they lose the CCG, AND TCU, USC and LSU all win their CCGs (close with LSU).
TCU is in if they win out, and can’t afford a loss.
USC is also in if they win out, and can’t afford a loss.
LSU must win out AND have either TCU and USC get a loss.
Clemson must win out AND have TCU, USC, and LSU all lose.
Tennessee and Bama need total chaos to have any chance.
