Scatback BS

When I think of a scatback, I think of a situational player, like MoWells or Holliday from LSU. Good speed and dangerous, but not an every down back. When Ringer was getting 40 carries a game, I wouldn't classify him as a scatback...he is just an all purpose back who mixes speed and power, and can also take the Big 10 beating. I think Berry can possibly be an every down player, as can Hyde. I think Hall will end up either as a situational scat back player, or he will end up at slot receiver. Hall is a guy that I think could end up anywhere though.

Didn't the staff want Pittman to put some more weight on because, of Beanie and too help his power up the middle in running. ,, Now if he was a scat back/small back how come he was the only one that could run up the MIDDLE out of all those scat backs. Was Robert smith a scat back at 6 1 180?

Size does seem to be a part of the definition, but the only succesful "scat backs" I've seen at OSU in the last few years would seem to me to be Archie, Carlos Snow, Peppy Pearson and Michael Wiley (you could possibly add MoC to the list) All three had an ability to run between the tackels, go wide, and be the outlet receiver. All three possessed great balance to go along with speed and stength. AND only one, MoC played for Tressel and Bollman and he played as a freshman on what was still mostly a Cooper recruited team.

So how is it that Mike Hart and Jevon Ringer can make it as scat backs on teams with less talent and it takes a Beanie or a Pittman to get any kind of yardage? Is it the blocking style? Is it a different offense? I could understand if there had been some adequate back ups, but for three years in a row the Buckeyes couldn't run dick until Pittman stepped up and it wasn't until the middle of the season that Boom could be counted on to back up Beanie. It just doesn't make sense to me on a team with as much talent up front.

im partial to the earle bruce/woody hayes philosphy/ you have a pair and a spare. (two guys with similar styles and a change of pace back).

Per the Earl Woods bio, Tiger is:

1/4 Thai, 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 African-American, 1/8 Dutch, 1/8 Native American.

Earl was 1/2 African-American, 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Native American; and his mom is 1/2 Thai, 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Dutch.

Now I have another reason to root against Tiger, besides wanting Jack to keep the record of 18 majors. "There are two kinds of people I can't stand: those who are intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch."
