Oh and I forgot the kid that is rarely mentioned at RB, Jordan Hall, making decisions even harder since he is a good scatback who can thrive in the spread offense and catch the ball out of the backfield. Not sure if he stays at RB or is moved to WR

Hmmmm, just being devil's advocate here, but seems between Michael Wiley and Beanie we've had a number of "scatbacks" come into the program and not a one of them has been able to do much with this offense. Mo Wells being a prime example. I wonder why that is because we've seen little guys do well at other schools, Ringer and the guy from Northern Illinois come to mind.

Pittman was scatback sized, with a fullback heart...

Pittman came in at 195 and got up to 210. Wiley was the only small back that lived up too all those rankings and Wiley was a freak his freshman year starting at different games as a WR,CB,RB and doing K.O. returns.
I'm still not a fan of those small backs but, I hope one of those stand up too all that hype.

Wasn't Wiley the guy who scored more than 1 td in his first game. Or maybe the kid who ran a kick back for a TD and we had like 8 players on the field ?

Pittman was listed at 190 in 04 (and those are usually generous).
Pittman was 5 11 190-195. so all those small backs that came/come in their freshman year were all 5 10 175-180 but, really shorter and 165-175. I know for a fact Wiley was small as hell. I still see him at game day parties and between A.Winfield and Wiley they, just made me laugh. I'm 6 2 225 and I feel like I'm in the N.B.A TALKING TOO THEM . Those 2 STARS made it being small. True STUDS and they loved my comments, ASKING WHAT IF YOU WERE BIGGER ON THE FIELD. :)

If Pittman was 210 in his senior year, I'm Tiger Woods...he's currently listed at 207 (and 5'11") on NFL.com and that's after two years of NFL S&C. He was likely around 200, maybe 205, in his senior year, and at 5'11" that would make him scatback-sized. Mo Wells is only an inch shorter at 5'10" and was listed at 196 going into the 2008 season, and he's the personification of the word scatback.

You might have some Tiger in you but, you must be black then:)
Didn't the staff want Pittman to put some more weight on because, of Beanie and too help his power up the middle in running. ,, Now if he was a scat back/small back how come he was the only one that could run up the MIDDLE out of all those scat backs. Was Robert smith a scat back at 6 1 180?

The reason scat backs simply haven't worked out quite as well here is we don't run an offense to suite a scat back.

Look at all the backs we've had over 210 pounds. Beanie, Eddie, MoC, Lydell Ross and Johnathan Wells to just name the most recent.

The smaller ones have been Wiley, Maurice Wells, Pittman (202ish so not that small), and Pepe Pearson (200ish).

To be fair to the current staff only one smaller back hasn't worked out very well for them and thats MoW. Pittman was a great runner as we know but for whatever reason MoW didn't do very well. Personally I think the staff doesn't know how to use RB's that can't run effectively between the tackles. That's why I think Hyde will have a bigger impact than Berry to start. Now I don't really know how Berry runs between the tackles (I hear its quite well) but the 230 pound Hyde I think can step in and help us RIGHT NOW.

Herron also on the smaller side knows how to run between the tackles so we're in good hands for the time being.

Boom Herron has been listed as smaller than Mo Wells since he's been at tOSU. Yet he is no way a scat-back, getting most of his best yardage between the tackles.

Size and style aren't always congruent. And you can be a very effective rusher in the B11 even if you don't tip the scales at 200+.
