San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

Still not a lot of info out there about the HC search. What is is a lot of smoke around Mike Shanahan. Fuck me.
...and Rex Reed. What is it about professional sports that the same clowns walk from job to job. It's like MLB where guys like Mayo Smith and Don Zimmer would regularly get named as a manager shortly after getting fired somewhere else. Are you telling me there's no fresh meat out there, someone with some ideas that might work. If I thought the 49ers sucked this year it's nothing like they're going to suck next.

I actually think Rex Ryan is a pretty decent coach. Get him a decent OC and I wouldn't be upset. He was saddled with one of the worst front offices in football that saddled him with a roster of shit over the last 4 years. He didn't take a pitiful Jets franchise to back-to-back conference championship games by dumb luck. He can coach, and the Niners have talent. He's been mentioned in some circles, but haven't heard much about him.

Well, it appears it's Jim Tomsula. To say that's a downgrade from Harbaugh is an understatement. He's well respected, and has been with the organization for years, so there's continuity. But something about this feels like dumbass Jed York hiring a puppet. It'll be interesting to see what kind of staff he puts together, and if he can retain Fangio at DC...which is key. I kind of think it was now or never for Fangio to get a HC gig and looks like it isn't going to happen. At least it isn't Gase or Shanahan. I was terrified they were going one of those directions after a lot of smoke the past few days. Plus, he is undefeated, I guess.

Trestman made McCown look like a pro-bowl alternate.
Trestman's system involves the QB staying in the pocket and making multiple reads. Not exactly Kap's strength. But, Kap is working with Kurt Warner and some other QB coaches this offseason, so maybe we'll finally see some development there. Harbaugh and Roman sure as hell didn't develop that part of his game.

I just watched the Tomsula introductory press conference...and I'm honestly trying not to exaggerate here...I think it was the most awkward, uncomfortable, opposite-of-confidence-inspiring press conference I've ever seen in my life.

Yeah, um, not the most articulate fella. I'm willing to give him a shot, but it really feels like York and Baalke just wanted a yes man. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm not exactly optimistic.
