San Francisco 49ers (official thread)

Well, looks like they'll pull it off and finish 8-8. Just a massively disappointing season for so many reasons, and I'm glad it's over. I'll post some thoughts on potential head coaches at some point. But I hope Vic Fangio gets a real shot at it. What he did with this MASH unit of a defense this year was pure wizardry. My only hesitation is that a part of me wants an offensive minded HC to try to salvage Kap and properly utilize some of the talent they have on offense that has been withering on the vine under Greg Roman's dumb ass.

Yeoman effort from Gore today. If this was his finale as a Niner, it was a fine end. I really hope he's back next year, though. Love that guy.

Okay, a quick and dirty--
Who do I think they'll hire? Jim Tomsula. The Yorks love him, he's a loyal soldier, and he'll come cheap. Fangio may get it too. I honestly expect them to stay in house, because after the Harbaugh fiasco, they aren't going to want to think outside the box. How would I feel? I'd prefer Fangio, and would hope he'd bring in a really good OC. Tomsula I'm luke warm on, but everybody speaks highly of him, so while far from a "sexy" hire, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Who else do I hope gets a look? Coordinator-wise, Todd Bowles and Pep Hamilton would top my list. One wild-card for me is Bob Stoops. The Yorks are Youngstown people, and if Stoops is ever going to make the NFL leap, doing it now to a team pretty much built to win now makes sense.

@NFBuck does't Hairball have another year on his contract at SF? Does SF have any control of the situation such as trading him to another team or is that out the window?
He had another year, but they "mutually agreed" to simply part ways. Tells me one of two things-- there wasn't a trade market for him...or there was a trade market, but they didn't want him coaching elsewhere in the league, so they agreed to let him walk to scUM in exchange for agreeing not to coach in the NFL for X number of years. He's essentially a FA.

Essentially couldn't he pull a boozer?
