Tom Archdeacon: Mother, son make quite an impression in OSU opener

She said she’d get tipped off by his aunt or uncle. Sometimes it would be a cousin, a neighbor or even his old high school coach and each time she’d get into her car and go out and find her son.

When she’d spot him walking, she said she’d pull up alongside him, roll down the window and give him the same command.

“I’d say ‘Get in this car … now!’” Angela Dennis said with a smile. “I’d tell him, ‘You are going back there … Period!’”

Vonn Bell seems to be a pretty good talent evaluator. From Bowl practices last December:

"Malik is my guy,” Bell said. “I think he’s going to be all right, he really is. He’s got an instinct for the ball, makes plays, gets a lot of interceptions in practice. I’m telling you, he’s probably leading the team in interceptions in practice. He can hit you now, too.”

Awesome find. Malik has a really unique and special skill set. I hope he keeps coming along because his range and athleticism are about the best I've seen here. I know it's early but that is abundantly clear at this point.

I get the sense that he is really just starting to learn football but is so talented, he just takes over in game situations. If he learns the game and playbook here, he's going to on another level.

Ok...I may be in the minority (probably the only person) but I think his second interception was more impressive than the first one. At the snap, he opened his hips to his left and sprinted to midfield, as the QB opened up towards his target, Malik turned back to his right and covered the ground to get to the sideline, took the ball from the WR's hands, knocked him to the ground, turned around while staying in bounds and returned it for 40 yards.

You're not alone!

The fact he covered that much ground and most importantly stayed on his feet after securing the catch and disposing of the intended receiver. That's what you call putting on a clinic.
