S Malik Hooker (All B1G, All-American, Dallas Cowboys)

I don't think so. I loved Bell, of course, but Hooker is already obviously more functionally athletic.

Malik is probably a better run and jump athlete than Vonn (not sure it's "obvious" after one game as starter, but I don't disagree with the overall point), but Vonn definitely covered as much ground as Malik. That interception in the Sugar Bowl right after the bad punt covered the same, if not more, ground that Malik covered for his first interception. I'm just glad both guys wore S&G.

He looks like another level athlete to me, but it's certainly early. If he turns out as well as Bell, we'll be fortunate, but I suspect (especially given what Schiano's said about his work ethic) that he'll be different and possibly better.

I don't disagree at all. He's an exceptional athlete.

I think he's what Coach Meyer thought Ohrian Johnson could be. In 2012 coach would always say that Ohrian doesn't know how good he could be and the players on the team regularly singled him out as the best athlete on the team.

That's exactly my sense with him. We've had a lot of good and better than good safeties, obviously; last year's tandem is playing in the League. Some of them were grinders with less athleticism than other players and we've had some athletes who couldn't quite put it all together. This kid might make that next step.

Bell was also a great athlete, and one of the first ball hawking Safeties that OSU has had in a while. Hooker's basketball skills definitely translate to the football field, which shows with his athleticism and ability to go up and track balls like have... Except Bell. If Bell would've returned, I can almost guarantee he'd be doing similar things and he also had superior coverage skills as well. But I look forward to watching Hooker's game against B1G competetion, as BG and the Spring game are such small sample sizes, yet he's stepped up each time.

His three picks has him currently tied for the lead nationally in interceptions with two others, Kai Nacua of BYU and Mike Tyson (not a typo) of the Juggalos. Neither Nacua nor Tyson have a TD and their total return yardage of 39 yards combined is a tad over half of Hooker's 70 yards.
