COLUMBUS ? Ohio State senior safety, Tyler Moeller, is known in Columbus as a player who can deliver a crushing hit.
Going into the 2009 season, many felt that the Cincinnati-native was poised for greatness, a shoe-in to start at either linebacker or safety for the Buckeyes. Yes, he's that multi-talented.
But just weeks before he was to make his first start for the Buckeyes, Moeller found himself on the wrong end of a vicious hit. The only difference was, this blow didn't happen on the gridiron ? it happened in a Florida bar.

That probably depends on the health of Tyler Moeller, who Tressel is expecting to have back at full capacity this fall.
?If you had a game tomorrow Paul Haynes would tell you that he would play your nickel and he would probably leave Jermale Hines back at the safety,? Tressel said.
?Jermale played that nickel the whole time this year because Tyler was hurt, but we?ll see how that looks in the preseason.?
Moeller was slated to start for the Buckeyes at Sam linebacker in 2009 before an off-the-field head injury knocked him out for the entire season. He returned in the spring as a safety, but could not participate in full contact at the coaches? discretion.
They are going to cut him loose this fall and as long as his head can hold up to the trauma of full-on collisions, Moeller should be in the starting lineup for the Buckeyes when they face spread offenses like the one Miami runs with quarterback Jacory Harris.
?He?ll also play safety, but I think you?re primary thing as you walk through the door is that he?d be your starting nickel and a big part of your special teams,? Tressel said.
Moeller full go
Coach Jim Tressel said he expects senior defensive back Tyler Moeller to have the reins taken off when practice starts. Moeller missed all of last season with a head injury sustained in an assault in Florida that resulted in brain trauma.
Moeller practiced with the team in the spring, but was held out of any contact drills.
"If the season started tomorrow, he would probably be our starting star or nickel back," Tressel said. "We play that package 60 or 65 percent of the time. He'd be playing a lot."
Today in Florida, Moeller's assailant, Ralph Decker, was sentenced to two years' probation, with conditions. In June, he changed his plea to guilty on a charge of felony battery.
The conditions include Decker taking an anger-management class, undergoing a substance-abuse evaluation, and being forbidden to drink alcohol. He also has paid all of the Moeller family's out-of-pocket medical expenses, which totaled more than $11,000.
?This is what Tyler wanted,? Amy Moeller said. ?He wanted it done, he wanted the medical bills paid, and more important, he wanted the acknowledgment that this was an unprovoked act.
?A year ago on check-in day, the players and coaches were stopping by Tyler?s hospital room to wish him well," she said. ?Today isn?t about the sentencing, it?s about Tyler being 100 percent and back as part of his team.?
