S/LB Tyler Moeller (official thread)

Glad to to see Tyler, but dang that is a nasty scar.

Back in the 7th Grade a friend of mine had a serious head injury and he wasnt allowed to play football for a whole calender year. My friends injury was more brain related, and I dont know the seriousness exactly of Tyler's injury, so maybe Tyler's injury isn't the same, but hopefully Tyler can heal fast and get back to doing what he loves soon. :oh:

shunt

After viewing this picture I am almost certain Tyler had a shunt put in to regulate intercranial pressure, either from increased CSF or swelling (not sure if swelling can be helped with a shunt). If there are rumors of him playing ball again they must plan on him making a full recovery. I know it is not recommended to play contact sports with a shunt, but if you no longer needed the shunt perhaps it would be okay.

Keeping him in our thoughts and prayers

Moeller, his mom have reason to smile
Friday, August 14, 2009
By bob hunter

After negotiating a milling picture-day crowd of players, parents and reporters without a GPS, I found someone who could locate Amy Moeller.

Four football moms were chatting away, and the one identified as Tyler Moeller's mother wore by far the biggest smile.

I asked again. The lady in the stripes?

A nod. I looked again. Are you sure?

Amy Moeller's son had just been robbed of a football season for which he had been preparing most of his life, robbed by one senseless sucker punch from a man he didn't even know.

The fourth-year junior hit his head hard and, next thing you know, he was in a hospital emergency room. He spent several days in a Florida intensive-care unit, returned to Columbus and had surgery Saturday, apparently to relieve fluid that had been building on the brain.

He was released from the hospital Monday into a world without football, at least for now.

A football tragedy?

Amy Moeller's sunny smile provided another necessary reminder that there is more to life than football, even if a sizable chunk of Ohio State fandom might have a hard time believing it.

"It's a devastating thing to have happen period," she said. "To him, it's devastating that it's football season, but to a mother "

She didn't mind being asked about how the severity of the injury compared with its timing before football season. That's because she is so happy he is going to be fine.

"He had surgery five days ago and he is a brand-new kid today," she said. "I would never know he had surgery five days ago, except that he's wearing a path in my stairway. He's not happy to be still. He is good in every way."

Moeller Appears With Team Days After Brain Surgery
Friday, August 14, 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State linebacker expected to start this season before being sidelined by an injury rejoined the team on Thursday for Picture Day at Ohio Stadium, just days after having brain surgery.
Tyler Moeller was involved in an off-season incident his family says almost took Moeller's life, 10TV's Dan Fronczak reported.

"He's actually very lucky to be alive," Tyler's mother, Amy Moeller, told 10TV News. "He's very lucky to, you know, to be in perfect health except for the fact that he's got staples in his head."

Tyler was not talking to the media at Thursday's Picture Day, but the stitches and orange antiseptic visible on his shaved head spoke volumes about his courage.

Tyler's mother, Amy, was apprehensive to discuss the injury because of pending litigation. Tyler reportedly was attacked by a stranger while on vacation in Florida at a restaurant during a family gathering.

Amy Moeller agreed to describe the moment in which the injury occurred.

"We were in Florida, first night of our family vacation," Amy said. "He was with my uncle and my children. It was just a freak thing. So he was blind-sided you know, assaulted and didn't even see it coming."

So happy to hear he is doing well and chomping at the bit to get back playing. This whole situation is weird and I cant imagine what Tyler and his family are going through. Just seems so strange for him to be sucker punched like this without any word of a fight going on. I hope justice is served and that we see #26 making tackles again very soon.

If he had pads on, those stitches and staples would fit very well into a Ronnie Lott anecdote.

"No shit, so we were down 21-3 to the Rams at the half, and I had elevated cerebrospinal pressure. So Bill Walsh relieves it with a ballpoint pen and staples me up. We came back and won 35-28 and clinched the division."

With Rose and Small back with the team does that mean Moeller is the odd man out on the two remaining roster positions? If so, I hope he gets well soon and can play football; live life, like before.
As the last page spells out, he's not playing this fall.

It's already been determined that Tyler will not play football this season.

Guys, let's get a few things in perspective.

1. Ralph Gray Decker appears to be a person with a lot of problems.

2. He isn't a typical Florida fan and there is no reason to draw any inferences about Florida fans as a result of Decker's apparently cowardly actions.

3. There is no reason for anyone to do anything to Decker. The law will deal with this disgusting attack.

4. The last thing we need is for a Buckeye fan to do something to Decker or any other Florida fan that would reflect badly on Ohio State.

Please let your posts here reflect the class that we like to think distinguishes Buckeye fans.
