S/LB Tyler Moeller (official thread)

Looks like they've already changed the story:

No mention of a correction or retraction, though.

That's my biggest problem. There's ZERO credibility.

Since the network does not admit they were wrong, they can just report anything (and then blame sources like Kirk Herbstreit does).

Man, I go on vacation for a few days and all hell breaks loose.

Here's hoping Tyler beats the clock on his recovery, promptly gets that redshirt and works to come back next season.

When we can welcome him back, all anew.

One thing for sure, head injuries (intrigued by H&G's "delicate nature" wording so I don't want to speculate, though I note someone mentioned seizures upthread) they are a very serious matter.

I read that the incident took place down in Key West. Don't know how correct that is but why of all places do things like this take place. I have been down there many times and its just an easy going to get it place to visit. We may never get the details of the matter but I shure hope he can
recover from this in good time. Who ever will move up in the roster to fill
in the vacancy will have big shoes to fill. Get well soon Tyler.

Some of the Comments on ESPN are just disrespectfull. When someone is sufferring from seizures due to brain damage no need to make fun of the matter.. Hope Tyler makes a full recovery.

Don't ever, ever read the comments on the ESPN board unless you're looking to lower your I.Q. That place is full of internet tough guys. I wonder how long it took for the conversation to be diverted to something like "the entire SEC can destroy OSU!!!!!!".

edit: and I hope Tyler is doing better.

Does anyone have the ESPN article as it was originally posted (the one that implicitly characterized Tyler Moeller as a thug/brawler)? I noticed BB73 and CHU copied and pasted some snippets, but I was hoping someone had the full article.

This seems like an issue that can be taken up with ESPN's ombudsman. After all, when I read something like this in the current article:

There had been conflicting reports about how and where Moeller was injured.
...I see a legitimate beef to take up with ESPN because the only "conflicting reports" came from ESPN who incorrectly reported that the injury was suffered in a brawl in Cincinnati.

"Conflicting reports" is ESPN-speak for "Joe Schad is a moron that didn't have sense enough to just pick up the phone and call Tim May at the Dispatch."

I seriously considered doing this, but I don't know where the original stories would be..maybe on Google Cache?

They've changed the story twice already which means here have been three separate versions out there in less than 24 hours. I imagine if we could get enough people to e-mail, the ombudsman would have to address it.

The ironic thing is, ESPN no longer has an ombudsman on staff (Schreiber finished her term in March). I doubt the network really cares if its wrong, hence viewers/readers can't even have a working link to provide corrections.

If the comment section of the story didn't blow up with maybe 50 comments (in 10 min.) that said ESPN/Schad had the story wrong, the original story would still be posted and ESPN would've just ran with it (and then it would blame sources if proven wrong).

If the Moeller family took any offense to the original Schad story, I imagine it would've been the original lede which has been posted (the closing was just on-field statistics).

The biggest thing is: It's good news that Tyler is out of hospital and not the continued incompetence of ESPN (which won't do any favors to any school not named USC or in the SEC).
