Glenville stars shine vs. Harding

In what was billed as a game featuring two of the most talented high school teams in the country, Saturday's contest between Cleveland Glenville and Warren (Ohio) Harding turned into a blowout.
Glenville's stars put up 41 points in the first half and cruised to a 41-7 win. Coming into the game, Jermale Hines was the highest-ranked of at least eight Division I prospects at Glenville. Hines proved he was worthy of the four-star ranking he's been given by Rivals.com. At quarterback, Hines threw a 15-yard touchdown pass and added 69 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. On defense, Hines intercepted a pass and also forced a fumble. All of which isn't a surprise to Glenville coach Ted Ginn, Sr.
"I keep telling everybody that will listen that Jermale Hines is the best player in Ohio," Ginn said. "He just dominates games, and that's exactly what he did here. He just takes things over. This is the type of performance that will have my phone ringing off the hook even more when we get back to town."
Hines has offers from Michigan, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Illinois, Louisville, Purdue, Wisconsin and others in the MAC. His top three are Michigan, Ohio State and West Virginia. Hines is hoping Saturday's game will bring in more offers and maybe spark the Buckeyes to send an offer his way.

Jer'Male will go to Iowa for the game this weekend. He says he feels a repsonsibility as a Tarblooder to seriously "consider" a tOSU offer, but Michigan, West Virginia, Purdue, and Iowa are all recruiting him very hard.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif][FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The environment was crazy," Bynes said. "It was more than I expected. The fans were just wild. Are there any updates on OSU's interest? I know it is part of the coached job to promote kids but to have Ginn SR. say he is the best player in Ohio says a lot in my book.

I still think it is a matter of a test score. That is when the decision will be made and I think that he will receive an offer if he has a high enough test score.

I have plenty of respect for what he does, but he has a history of homeristic evaluations. "Best" seems to gets thrown around a lot by TG Sr.

He's very athletic, but better than Clifford or Martin? Nope.

Excellent point. In reality, Hines is probably not even a top 10 guy in state, but he benefits from attending a nationally known football powerhouse. Even with his academics in order, I'd say that Hines probably does not get an offer from Ohio State.

This is probably not a popular opinion, but I think to some extent it is worth it (assuming he can pass admissions) to reach a little on a Glenville kid if there aren't any other Glenville recruits in a given recruitung class.

Not saying Jermale is a reach, because as mentioned, the hold-up in offering him might be grades. but I think it is good to keep a familiar glenville faces on the team. for those recruits down the road.

I think there will be a time when the Glenville pipeline isn't as automatic as it is now.

In fact I think other bigten teams are indeed trying to get their foot in the glenville door by reaching in some cases to get glenville alum on their team.

in the '06 class no less than 10 Glenville players signed to play at Big10 schools! (3 going to tOSU)

I agree crazybuck40 - remember that quote about Matta? "He's not recruiting, he's choosing" well, as far as I'm concerned Tressel is getting fully into that mode himself. And, let us be honest, that choosing is probably more complex with the larger squad and player development demands of a football squad.

Tressel being good at choosing is (parenthetically) one of the reasons why I don't care about the "lack" of names on the commit board today, nor do I worry about the names that do appear later - be they full of stars or not.

But on Hines - if he receives an offer from Tressel and OSU, then I'll trust that a good judgment has been made on their part. Should they pass on Hines, I will likewise trust that it is done for good reasons. One of which reasons may simply be that there were better options to fill our needs with the limited scholarships available.
