Iowa's football team couldn't match up with Ohio State on the field, but the Hawkeyes had something Saturday night that topped the Buckeyes, Florida, Miami and Michigan -- at least in the eyes of three recruits.

Not all was lost for Iowa during its 38-17 defeat against the top-ranked Buckeyes.

The Hawkeyes brought in several recruiting targets, and the environment at Kinnick Stadium left a big impression on Florida high school teammates Moses Jenkins and Josh Bynes and Cleveland Glenville linebacker Jermale Hines.

Jenkins, a cornerback, said he went to a Gator game in the The Swamp earlier this year.

"No comparison," he said. "The fans (at Iowa) were real crazy."

Bynes said he's been to "plenty of college games."

"They were nothing like that. That was sick," he said. "I've been to Miami games and fans are never like that. ... I haven't seen nobody close to that."
Hines estimated he's been to nearly a dozen college games between trips to Michigan and Ohio State.
"(Iowa) was actually tops," he said. "The fans were crazy."

Kinnick turned into a sea of gold shirts and white towels for Saturday night's prime time clash with the Buckeyes. It transformed into a type of atmosphere seldom seen in Iowa City with the bright lights, the television cameras suspended over the field, the blimp hovering above and the nation watching.

"The environment was crazy," Bynes said. "It was more than I expected. The fans were just wild. The fact they knew our names, it was just crazy. It was something I'd never seen before. That was one of the best crowds I've ever seen in my life. It was amazing."

Bynes and Jenkins play at Boyd Anderson High School -- the same program that produced former Iowa linebacker Abdul Hodge -- in Lauderdale Lakes. Even though there's a connection from their high school to the Hawkeyes, they were stunned when Iowa fans knew their names. In fact, they encountered one fan wearing a t-shirt featuring their faces with the words, "Iowa's Most Wanted."

The Hawkeyes aren't the only program in the running, however. Both players are three-star prospects on rivals.com's five-star scale.

Bynes, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound middle linebacker prospect, said he also has Auburn, LSU, UCLA, Arizona State and Louisville on his list. He said Iowa helped itself "big time" with his visit.

Jenkins, a 6-2, 175-pounder, said he also is considering Florida, Wisconsin and Arizona State.

Both players rode the bus with the Hawkeyes from the team hotel in Cedar Rapids to the stadium Saturday afternoon.

"We got there and the fans on the street were rocking the bus," Jenkins said. "They couldn't wait for us to leave the bus.

"It was real nice. The fans were real crazy. The coaches showed me a lot of love. All the players I hung out with were real nice. I had a real good time."

Hines made an unofficial visit to Iowa City to check out two of the college programs on his list. He comes from one of Ohio State's top feeder programs. Seven former Glenville players are on the Buckeye roster, including quarterback Troy Smith and receiver Ted Ginn Jr., whose father is the Glenville coach.

Twenty-one players on Glenville's roster received football scholarships last year. The Hawkeyes signed quarterback Arvell Nelson and defensive back Derrick Smith.

Hines, a 6-1, 200-pound outside linebacker, is ranked a four-star prospect. He said he also is considering Michigan, West Virginia, Purdue, Wisconsin, Louisville and Ohio State. Hines said the Buckeyes are the only team on his list that has not yet offered a scholarship.
