Colts sign OT Tepper, waive DB Hines
By PFW staff

The Colts signed OT Mike Tepper from their practice squad to the active roster and waived DB Jermale Hines, the team announced Monday.

Tepper was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cowboys in 2010 but did not see game action.

The Colts claimed Hines off of waivers last week. He was a fifth-round selection in the 2011 draft by the Rams.

Carolina Panthers Jermale Hines (36) and Bryant Browning (60) have known each other since 2005, when Hines transferred to Cleveland's Glenville High, where Browning was playing. Jeff Siner - [email protected]

When Jermale Hines and Bryant Browning say they're teammates, they really mean it.

That's because, with the exception of one season, they've been on the same team since 2005 - in high school in Cleveland, college at Ohio State and now as rookies with the Carolina Panthers.

"It's very interesting and exciting at the same time," says Browning, an offensive lineman on the Panthers' practice squad.

The history between Hines (a reserve defensive back) and Browning goes back seven years.

Carolina waives Jermale Hines

The Carolina Panthers waived safety Jermale Hines on Tuesday after the rookie from Ohio State failed to make many special teams contributions.

Hines was claimed off waivers Oct. 4 after the Panthers released safety Sean Considine in another move designed to boost the struggling special teams.

But Hines had just two special teams tackles in five games with the Panthers, who rank at or near the bottom of several special teams categories.

Hines, 24, a fifth-round pick by St. Louis, was not in the Panthers' secondary rotation.

Colts Bubble Watch: Is Delone Carter at risk of getting cut?
By Evan Hilbert | CBSSports.com
August 24, 2012

Jermale Hines (S, 2nd year, fifth round pick in 2011) -- Hines was originally drafted by the Rams, but he spent five games in Indianapolis last season before being cut. Hines was re-signed from the Panthers practice squad late last season and seemed to be in line to backup Antoine Bethea at free safety. A solid outing last week by Latarrius Thomas and a defensive backfield in flux may have been the recipe for Hines' demise.
