S Anderson Russell (official thread)

I don't even care that he isn't catching it....he isn't a receiver

Dude is always in position and breaking plays up as well as laying the wood on blitzes and run support

I think Russel and Coleman may be better saefty tandem than Doss and Nickey b/c of their coverage abilities as well as run support....this defense is just sick all the way around
agreed. i have no problem he is not catching those passes as long as he is there to break them up. now if something happens where he gives up big yards even a td for not making a pick then there's a problem.

Generating TOs is a critical part of the game, but at this point, for a kid who never played safety in high school, I think more focus should be given to the fact that he's in position to make plays, that he doesn't give up anything behind him, and he's a tremendous tackler. Russell is going to be a hell of a player before his days are over at OSU.

It's great that he's in position for those "potential" inteceptions, but he has to catch the ones right at him...not captializing on opportunities could come back to bite us in a close game.

O-Zone

8:13 Doh! Donald Washington dropped an interception. Anderson Russell?s hands have contaminated this entire team! Get these guys some Purell!
11:26 Agghhh! The ball was tipped and Dexter Larimore had an easy interception, but Russellitis has now spread to the defensive line. This disease must be stopped! Maybe we can do some scarlet and gray ribbons and start a charity to bring an end to Russellitis. Won’t you please give?

Russellitis: OSU safety Anderson Russell has played well this season but has dropped numerous interceptions this season. Anderson has become the butt of some good-natured kidding from his teammates, even Head Coach Jim Tressel.

"I heard Anderson Russell say he needs to cut his hands off," said Tressel.

"What are you going to do? Our kids are playing fast, and sometimes when you play fast those things happen."

Russell's roommate, Malcolm Jenkins, has a plan to help Russell hang onto the football.

"He's my roommate so I told him that every time I see him in the house I'm going to throw a football at him until he catches it," laughed Jenkins.

Russell remains philosophical about his current woes holding onto sure interceptions.

"As soon as I wake up tomorrow I'm going to go buy a football," said a smiling Russell.

"I'm going to keep it in my hand all day and throw it around at the house."
While Russell dropped a couple of more against Purdue, he did record two sacks in blitz situations. Russell credited the OSU blitz scheme for his success as a pass rusher against the Boilermakers.

"James (Laurinaitis) is coming off the corner with me so he kind of takes up the blockers because they kind of focus on him and it really frees me up," said Russell.

Please tell me lightning didn't just strike twice. :(

At least the guy who hit him was called for a clip. Oh, wait.......nevermind. There's a reason why it's illegal. :shake:

Really hope it's not too serious.
