S Anderson Russell (official thread)

The Sack/Forced Fumble that he had last week was amazing. Watching it in real time I didn't think he would close on Bacher but all the sudden he kicked into a higher gear and made the play.

Me likey Anderson Russell.

Defensive back Anderson Russell, forcing a fumble with a sack of Northwestern's C.J. Bacher, sees lots of options in the Buckeyes' nickel defense.

The proliferation of spread offenses in college football has made the nickel defense the standard for most teams, including Ohio State. "Out of it we can run zone coverage, we can run man-to-man coverage, we can run a lot of blitzes, too," safety/nickel back Anderson Russell said. "It gives us a lot of options."

Maybe if Anderson just starts trying to use his hands to catch a ball! He's a very talented safety, but my 3-year old son can catch better.
Heck , don't single him out. There were quite a few dropped balls in the game , not just Anderson. Maybe JT needs to buy them some baskets! :wink2:

I don't even care that he isn't catching it....he isn't a receiver

Dude is always in position and breaking plays up as well as laying the wood on blitzes and run support

I think Russel and Coleman may be better saefty tandem than Doss and Nickey b/c of their coverage abilities as well as run support....this defense is just sick all the way around

Anderson Russell is now in serious Thorpe contention with his play this year. They added his name to the watch list this morning.

But then they dropped it.

Anderson Russell does a good job reading the quarterback and closing on a receiver, and it results in a lot of balls thrown right at him. I don't know if he just has Ryan Hamby hands or if he's getting too excited and can't hold on, but I would have him spend a day or two at practice with the receiving corps.

He needs to spend some time with Larry Grant. Now that dude had some seriously nice hands on his pick off the other week!
