Rose Bowl possibilities

I think our OL will devour their DL and ask for seconds.

Everybody gets healthy during the bowl breaks, but OSU has more young linemen - and more banged up linemen - who stand to benefit from the long break we will get between now and January. Our running game has rolled in to form the past month and should be an absolute Juggernaut come game time.

Maybe I am just paranoid, but Oregon scares me. I just don't think it is a good matchup for us. Our defense will slow them down, I just don't think our offense is going to be able to keep up.

We got 5 turnovers against UM and only scored 24 points, and their defense is ranked in the 80's or worse in every catagory.

I guess what I am saying is if Oregon jumps out to an early lead and it is a shoot out we are going to be in a lot of trouble.

Our defense is better equipped to deal with Oregon than the defenses of other Pac-10 teams. I am pretty convinced that our running game will chew their defense up throughout the game. I respect they have a good offense or whatever, but I am not scared of them at all.

Hope: Rose Bowl will come down to QBs - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

If Oregon and Ohio State meet in the Rose Bowl, as many are projecting, no one can break down the matchup better than Purdue head coach Danny Hope.

Purdue is the only team to have faced both the Ducks and the Buckeyes this season, and the Boilers more than held their own in both games. They shocked Ohio State on Oct. 17 in West Lafayette and should have beaten Oregon on Sept. 12 in Eugene but got killed by three turnovers, two of which the Ducks returned for touchdowns in a 38-36 escape.

Oregon can clinch the Pac-10 title and a Rose Bowl berth by beating rival Oregon State on Dec. 3. If the Ducks prevail, Hope forecasts a competitive Rose Bowl that should be decided by the two quarterbacks, Oregon's Jeremiah Masoli and Ohio State's Terrelle Pryor.

"They both have real quick defenses, outstanding defenses," Hope told ESPN.com this week. "Each [team has] had their high points throughout the course of the season on both sides of the ball. They both have very athletic quarterbacks. The quarterback who plays the best in that game would have the edge because they're both really good teams."

Masoli completed only 11 of 21 passes for 163 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions against Purdue, but he led Oregon with 84 rush yards and a touchdown. Pryor endured his worst collegiate performance against the Boilers, committing four turnovers (two interceptions, two fumbles) in the 26-18 loss.

Incorrect... whoever controls the Line of Scrimmage's will win this game.
We've had games where the other QB's have played well but we still win.

I believe where we'll have the advantages is in on the OLINE, and our DLINE. Oregon's offense is simply too good to shut down completely but i'm confident that we'll win our share of battles. Which IMO will be more than what Oregon will be able to say when they try to stop our run.

If Pryor's stat line is 10-16 120 yards, and 80 yards rushing we're going to be hard pressed to lose the game. It's weird to accept that low of passing yards but thats just the norm for the time being. We're running so well that we really don't need a pass game. If Pryor puts it together completely for this game (200+yards passing) then forget it we'll be MORE than ok.

I think a match-up between Ohio State and Oregon would be a very good one. It would be strength-on-strength (Oregon O vs Ohio State D) which usually makes for good football. Overall, I think both of these teams are pretty equal. If this plays out, this has the chance to be the most compelling match-up of the bowl season (aside from the championship game).

Plus you don't want Cincinnati fans talking about how they beat the Pac-10 Champ, if Oregon State wins.

Yep, another reason to root for Oregon.

Oregon is perceived to be the best of the PAC 10 right now, looking at the rankings. I want them to beat the other OSU, and I want to beat their asses in Pasadena.

I hear people talking about OU's offense. Our defense slowed Texas down last year, and I'm confident we can do it to the Ducks, too. Oregon's defense allowed 51 to Stanford as Gerhart ran it down their throats. Bring 'em on.

I don't really have much confidence in our ability to beat either team, but I definitely think we match-up better with OSU. On the other hand, we win more respect with a win over Oregon than a win over OSU.

In the end, I don't care. My opinion won't influence anything, and there are pros and cons to facing either team. Whatever happens, I just hope we win in the Rose Bowl.

Good L-rd Man! Get your head out of your ass! Stop being a negative nancy, and get a spine.

How the hell can you not like our chances against either of those two teams when we have an absolutely brutal defense? It's true that the Buckeyes can lose the game; but I don't know how you can be so freaking miserable about a positive outcome or a good game. Besides what the hell is "hope" without any sort of "confidence".

Not only do I want the Ducks, we need the Ducks. If we would beat Oregon State, it would played as we beat a team that back into the Rose Bowl (and could not beat Cincy at home). Playing Oregon would be a more interesting game for the rest of the county (more people will watch) and if we beat them it would set us up for a NC run next year.

Agreed....also, when you play a team as hyped as Oregon is, it is that much more easy to keep the focus of the team going.....now all the way until the bowl game. It means a higher level of intensity when practicing. You are right about that NC run for next year....it will set us up just right.

As I was running some errands this evening, I had the local sports radio on out of Portland. I got to hear a little bit of talk about the game between Oregon-Oregon State, and then a caller got in. He talked some about what he thought would happen in the game, and ended with, "And it doesn't really matter which one goes to the Rose Bowl, because either one is going to absolutely destroy Ohio State". The host agreed with this sentiment once the call ended, and then went on his bent about how the Pac Ten is great from top to bottom (outside of Wazzou) and the Big Ten sucks.

These cats are going to be in for a rude awakening on Jan 1.
