Rock Band/Guitar Hero Thread

Does anybody know if its possible to play the older PS2 GH games on a PS3 with the GH3 or 4 wireless guitars?

I'm not a PS3 owner, but I do not see why it would not work. It's worth a try at least.

I finally got to play the GHWT drums, and I like them a lot better than the Rock Band drums. They just felt more fun to play.

The newest GH guitar controller is now my favorite that has been released. The only thing is that I do not get how to use the damn track pad!

Me neither. We got the complete band kit for Christmas, and I have one of the original model launch PS3s with the EE-on-a-chip backwards compatibility. I don't have any of the older PS2 versions of GH though. Figured I'd ask before wasting money eBaying them and finding out they don't work on the PS3.

Okay so I'm in a dilemma right now. I can't decide whether to get Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero World Tour game. What would you recommend (those who have played both or either)? I will be purchasing downloadable songs to add to the library as well.

Thanks.

IMO, Guitar Hero World Tour has a superior collection of classic rock/rock music, while Rock Band 2 has more metal and a whole bunch of other types of genres.

I prefer the GHWT setlist, because of the classic rock/rock majority, and you can also download a Jimi Hendrix 3pack and The Raconteurs 3pack.

It's all a matter of tastes, really. Rock Band has way more songs to download, FWIW.

I've been really impressed with the GHWT setlist, although I'm a huge fan of 70s rock, so I think that makes me the target demographic for this. I can't believe Activision ponied up the dough for master tracks from the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Steve Miller Band, etc, and got them all in one collection. It is a very impressive selection of songs. Having three Tool songs was icing on the cake.

I'm enjoying the drumming -- it's a lot more fun than playing the guitar, although I think its maybe too simple. They should have at least upped the complexity with a second pedal to represent a hi-hat.

BuckeyeMac, I would personally recommend GHWT. I think the GHWT instruments are superior to the Rock Band package, and thats what you're really buying the package for. The PS3 and 360 versions of World Tour and Rock Band 2 both support cross-instrument compatibility, which was why I purchased the GH band kit, and RB2 disc only. Enjoy the best of both. GH is also the more established franchise with the larger catalog, so I can add a second guitar (a bass for 4-player) via another bundle, such as GH:Aerosmith, which is under $50 everywhere right now.

For those that are choosing between the two games, currently GHWT has the better instruments, at least until the new drums and such are out for RockBand, not sure if those are released yet. At that time they may be on par, right now the bass pedal for the drums just doesn't hold up. We made it last 10 months before it snapped, we were able to repair it with a thin, metal sheet for backing and Duct Tape :)

Some people prefer the GH guitar, and I used to be that way myself. I didn't like the Rock Band guitar at first, but I think thats due to the fact I played GH for a year prior. Now I prefer the Rock Band guitar, so I think it doesn't really matter, get used to one and forget about it. I would like to say that I prefer the keys on the Rock Band version, the spaced out round buttons of GH make harder songs more difficult, imo.

As far as songs go, RB is superior. GHWT has an exceptional list from the released game, but after that they don't have a huge library of downloadable songs and probably never will (At least they haven't shown it thusfar). Theres a good chance Rock band will release many of the songs found in GHWT, some already have been. If you're not interested in downloading songs, Rock Band 2's starter list is still pretty good, just below GH in comparison I think.

As previous people have mentioned, GH has been known to over-chart songs at times. While this is great if you're a guitar/drum virtuoso, I find that some songs are just ridiculous to play at times. Rock Band has a pretty good difficulty, I play 1-2 times a week for 6-12 hours and can play most songs on Hard, and probably survive 50% of the Expert songs before I need a star power on a solo. If I play a similar song in GH, I've been known to fail out in the first 30 seconds of Eye of the Tiger on Expert lol

Basically, Dryden has a good idea here. If you're looking to get into the age of musical video games right now, get GHWT for the intro disc and instruments and play Rock Band a majority of the time.

Someone made a sweet verison of Muse's "Plug in Baby" on the GHTunes Music Creator :banger:

I also downloaded The Office theme song that someone had made pretty decent.

A lot of people were talking about how pointless the music creator in GHWT is, but I think it's pretty cool.... not that I can make anything worth a shit
