Rock Band/Guitar Hero Thread

Harmonix and MTV have bolstered the Rock Band library of music on Xbox Live.

Added today are three tracks by The Killers: "Mr. Brightside", "Smile Like You Mean It" and "Spaceman". These cost 440 Microsoft Points (GBP 3.74 / EUR 5.28) as a pack, or 160 Microsoft Points (GBP 1.36 / EUR 1.92) individually.

There's also music from Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force, which we've never heard of. "Caprici di Diablo", "Damnation Game", and "Red Devil" are the tracks on offer, which, again, can be bought as a three-strong pack or individually.

Finally, there's "Laid to Rest" by Lamb of God, which is a brilliant name for a band. No we've never heard this song before, but you can for 160 Points.

Incidentally, there were also supposed to be Soundgarden tracks "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Pretty Nose" up today, but Major Nelson's blog claims these haven't shown up.

All Rock Band DLC will work in Rock Band 2 and vice versa, remember.

PS3 owners, unclutter your living rooms. Available today, Rock Band 2 v1.01 download patch enables support for all GHWT peripherals. So now you can buy the superior GHWT bundle for the bigger drum kit and slide guitar, then just add a copy of RB2 disc-only for the better DLC library.

Playstation 3: Your Guitar Hero World Tour Drums Now Work In Rock Band 2

Thank you Harmonix! :banger:

Guitar Hero's DLC has been killing Rock Band's this month.
Meh. Sales figures != great music. :)

I could care less for anything Metallica has done since And Justice for All, so GHWT sales of Death Magnetic don't mean 'nuthin to me. I think RB easily has the more diverse/better selection of tunes right now, and some promising licenses on the way, while GH has the better peripherals. But then, now I don't have to make the choice, because I can own both, and have the DLC for both, but not have two drum kits, and four guitars, and two mics ...

Just recently started using the modified version of frets on fire with the gh skins installed (rockband is optional as well). I'm not even going to bother buying anything else. It's pretty easy to fret a song, and you can pick what you want to play. RB and Gh lost me when you have to pay additional money for "download packs"...I guess it would be different if they had thousands of songs to choose from.

I wasn't talking about sales figures, it was just my opinion on the songs/artists released as DLC in the month of November.

I still like RB better game-wise, I just think GH is pulling in the bigger names.

Well its about freakin' time Guitar Hero stepped up to the plate and actually got some decent content again, because Rockband has ruled the roost since it arrived on the scene. Honestly, Guitar Hero's downloadable content hasn't been impressive, if not DOA. I like the names and bands they've added to the new game out of box, CCR, The Nuge, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Steve Miller Band, Eagles, and Wacko Jacko are all talent I think that haven't made appearances. I'll probably pick up the game based on those entries, as well as a few others. Was disappointed to see they couldn't get ACDC, we actually enjoyed playing a lot of the live tunes on RB. We split the cost and my buddy and I both downloaded it .

For us, none of the downloadable content for Guitar Hero has been impressive. We're Metallica'd out at this point, and aside for 1 or 2 songs from Oasis, the only thing we would probably download from the whole list is Springfield's Jessie's Girl or Hot Blooded by Foreigner maybe. Already have the Boston tune for RB. After comparing the two games, what bands were you stoked for in GH for the month of November? Rockband released 5x as many songs, not counting the ACDC stuff. They had a good variety of bands from every spectrum too, from Presidents of the United States, to Foo Fighters, to some crazy bands I've never heard of. The Hendrix sounded good, not sure about the rest.

After checking out the information on the "Create a Custom Song" for Guitar Hero, I just noticed it's been limited to 3 minute songs or 1200 notes, whichever comes first. WTF, that makes it just about useless imo. Theres no way I'm gonna want to setup the notes for 3 minutes of a song that I can't finish, or a song I have to start playing nearly halfway through the 2nd verse. On top of that, they say they're gonna actively monitor copyright songs and take them off their servers or remove any songs that the artists refuse to allow. Ok, that part is understandable, not like you didn't see that one coming. So...what was the point of this whole function again?

The 3pack of Jimi Hendrix songs and the 3pack of The Raconteurs is better than just about anything RB has released to date. I love RB, but a lot of the DLC they release is rubbish. They full albums are cool, but the only one I actually bought was The Who, and I may pick up Rush's album. Maybe if I had a bigger HD.
