Rivalries and Conferences (Split from LSU v. OSU Offensive Personnel Thread)

True, but nothing beats bringing all the ESPN coverage of LSU games then quoting no good football has been played between Michigan or Ohio State in the past 4 or 5 years. There was a countdown clock on the ticker for ESPN, ESPN 2, and ABC (when they were showing college football) for the entire week leading up the the game last year.

Actually I am saying they are equal. Auburn/LSU and Florida/LSU are just as important to their fans. LSU/FLORIDA game had 90,000 people in BR outside the stadium without tickets. IT IS A BIG DEAL, seen by the nation, discussed by ESPN until people get sick, and normally has SEC or National Title implications.

OSU and Michigan do not have the exclusive understanding of rivalry in College football... OSU/Michigan is a great game, but there has not been any real good football played in that game for 4 or 5 years. OSU rolls over Michigan, no big deal...

Sure, to be the "greatest rivalry" you need several.

The Game is called The Game for a reason. Look at it like this.. you know how you feel about an SEC Championship - like it's all that matters and a NC is just icing? That's The Game.

Based on the results of the year, neither team should have been ranked higher than #5.
I see.. winning 2 of 3 games against the Number 2 team in the nation means Ohio State should have been no better than 5. :shake:

OK...

We get it...

SEC Champ is all that matters
Every SEC regular season game is a slug fest rivalry
Other conferences players are lucky to get picked in the 1st round

Which reminds me, since the SEC Champ is all that matters, and LSU already has that... why do you even care about the BCS Game? What's your purpose here, since the match with OSU is pretty well meaningless?

By the way: 1-0-1 And that was with Cooper's worst teams.

- Name another matchup where ABC puts it on during the day and it is a NATIONAL broadcast (no regional mess).

- JUST LAST YEAR it was #1 vs #2.

- It was voted #1 on ESPN for no reason?

...do I need to go on?

Your claims of it not being important for a few years is beyond a ridiculous claim. Just because YOU don't understand doesn't mean it isn't real.

And that is why people are looking at you like you've just claimed that the Saints are historically one of the best teams in the NFL.

My first wife was an Auburn alum (well technically she still is lol). I have been to Auburn/LSU...hell I've been to the Iron Bowl.

There is no comparison between the two.

---BTW the most viewed game of the '07 season was Kansas/Missouri with a 7.0 overnight rating (this was also an evening game with little competition).

The second most viewed game of the '07 season was Ohio State vs Michigan with a 6.4.

I couldn't find the exact number for the LSU/Auburn game HOWEVER the highest rated SEC game from that day (Oct 20th) was Kentucky vs Florida with a 3.6 overnight.
So regardless of how many watched LSU/Auburn it was fewer than decided to see Florida versus frickin' Kentucky (that's like Penn State vs Indiana folks).

LSU's highest rated game of the year? Also happened to be against the defending national champion Gators (hmm...) with a 5.7.

Oh about last year's Ohio State vs Michigan game?

It was the most viewed regular season college football game since 1993 with a 13.4 rating.

More people watched last year's Ohio State/Michigan game than have ever watched ANY game in the SEC.

Let me say that again...

More people watched the 2006 meeting of Ohio State & Michigan than have ever watched a single regular season game by ANY TEAM in the SEC.

Ever.

...

It was the ONLY game of the college football season that ABC identified in AUGUST as a NATIONAL broadcast.

in AUGUST

the ONLY game

 you guys are a bit touchy about that game. Seriously, good tradition, great history, just a bit overrated for its importance in recent years...
Last year it determined one of the spots in the BCS Championship Game. That might be an important game.
