To begin, the practices were not mandatory. This is big time college football. If you don't go to the voluntary workouts, don't expect to play. This is the same situation in high school, the pro's, hell you could even say some middle school sports.
Weak. Keep up that blind faith.

So you love the excuse that high GPA's mean negative results? explain this...
1.)It's pretty well documented that um football players gravitate towards the easier majors (Kiniesiology, General Studies) with less demanding course loads.
2.) Extended summer and weekend practices are not necessarily going to interfere with classwork.
And are you really going to take one man's word (Terrance Taylor) and listen to it like it's a bible verse. For all you know, he could have been pissed off about anything during that interview and exaggerated... but no, nobody ever does that.
How is that any worse than you shrugging it off as nothing or saying that he may just be disgruntled? Isn't Taylor one of the ones that supposedly benefitted from Barwis' workouts the most? I remeber reading um posters raving about how much his strength increased last fall. Why would he be disgruntled?

Well if you would have read the article its not just "taking one mans word" as you put it. Two existing players (Stokes and Hawthorne) both made comments about the long workouts. So if Taylor was just pissed off and disgruntled as you assume, what can be said about Hawthorne and Stokes? Were they pissed and disgruntled too?

Your argument then is that since this is big time college football, the workouts were voluntary. We'll see how far that argument goes.

I just got back from the Detroit Tigers game today. Awesome game...Tigers hit a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 8th.

Our company's suite is next to a suite loaded with UM alumni that seem to be pretty well connected. They are furious with RR and feel his days are numbered unless he somehow is vindicated on this. They feel that regardless of the bad season in 2008 that at least UM was "lily white" in regards to FB integrity. They went on to say that there is a very strong and growing movement within the alumni to demand Bill Martin and Rich Rod be gone by January 1.

He's toast unless they win 10 games.

by the way....I followed the OSU BB team bus to their lot. Yelled out a big "Go Bucks" and they were all surprised to hear that among all of those Blue fans.

Dodd weighs in.

CBS

"We were the strongest team in the country the last four years," Barwis said of West Virginia. "No one was stronger than us. Best conditioned, the fastest, [best] change of direction, most balance, best body awareness, most explosive."

Wow. Barwis now has a bounty on his head in SEC country.

While this situation looks bad for Michigan, it really is done across the country...minus the Sundays. 'Voluntary' means mandatory. To me, the bigger issue is the division in the ranks. Losing makes mandatory 'voluntary' workouts awful...unless there is a positive vibe that is nurtured by positive motivation. The sense I'm getting is these dogs are tired of being kicked...and are starting to snap back.

Call em soft, call em weak...whatever. Successful coaches are multi-faced creatures. They can deal with individuals in the framework of the team.

Every kid does not respond to being cursed out daily. Some kids get very complacent with a 'players' coach'

I don't get the feeling that this staff...or atleast those with the most influence or time with the kids...does vary as needed.

My way or the highway, "Junction Boys" stuff is not going to work with today's kids.

You will get some kids to love you the way they need to run through walls, play through pain, and find that last ounce of will needed at a crucial moment, but not all kids.

That is where the great coaches separate from the pack.

All jokes aside, this guy really is an arrogant ass.

It is important to caution that merely working out beyond the NCAA limits is only a violation if it is mandatory. Voluntary or player-led drills would not violate the rules.

But if I'm clear on the rules, any coach or staffer doing as little as checking on attendance makes it mandatory in the NCAA's eyes right?

For all you know, he could have been [censored]ed off about anything during that interview and exaggerated... but no, nobody ever does that.

This reminds me of when I worked at a Taco Bell in high school and was essentially expected to forge documents. I was supposed to check and mark down whether all the food temperatures, safety procedures, etc. were being followed to the letter. The first time I did it, I filled out the form honestly, and, like just about any fast food place, not everything was perfect. I noted it accordingly. The next day my boss saw it and gave me a write-up that called me a "disgruntled employee." Nothing could have been further from the truth; it was my first job, and I was happy to have it and loved receiving a paycheck for the first time in my life. I was just trying to do my job the right way.

That does not mean Taylor is not a disgruntled liar, but assuming that he is would just be a matter of convenience, not to mention unfair.

You guys sure didn't have any problems taking one mans word like bible and verse during the whole MoC investigation.

Now, I suppose you are going to tell me you were the lone voice of reason up there waiting for all the facts to come to light before passing judgment right?

The scUM/Rich Rod marriage is like watching some nose in the air blue blood's having to turn the family business over to the red neck trailer trash piece of shit who knocked up their daughter because their only living son is a drooling fucking retard.
