Chew on this one for awhile.
By DAVE POE,
July is the slowest month of the year for those of us who write sports for a living.
That gives us plenty of time to think about what might happen in the upcoming sports year.
Sometimes, we get a little carried away dreaming up the wildest, craziest sports scenarios imaginable.
I'll let you decide if that's the case with my latest one.
I've mentioned it to a couple people and the reaction I've received has been so strong, I thought I would share it with you.
First, it's pretty obvious to me this is going to be Rich Rodriguez's last season as the head football coach at the University of Michigan.
He's not going to win. He's going to end the season with another lopsided loss to Ohio State, this time in the Big House, where there is no sin like losing to the hated Buckeyes.
Rodriguez's short tenure at Michigan has been a disaster.
The players don't seem to like his style. The alumni hasn't warmed up to him. The administrators who hired him -and who could fire him -were unhappy they were going to have to be deposed in his legal dispute with West Virginia University.
Although most coaches get at least three years to prove themselves, I'm convinced Rodriguez is only going to get two.

you mean try telling that to their grand children's grand children? since they're the only ones who are still alive. Are you saying that our victories over you back in the day mean nothing??? try telling that to the guys that played in the games.
I am sure 60 years down the road people will be saying the games played now meant nothing. (they sure mean something to you, I, and everyone else who posts on this site).

The difference in the game will be significantly less though. There were only a handful of school's that were competitive for the national title unlike now where there's 120 1-A programs and the talent is so widespread that you routinely see teams from FCS beating FBS teams or at least being competitive. There's a reason we don't see 86-0 scores anymore(not uncommon back then), even bad teams are way too good to get beat that badly. It's exponentially tougher to win a national title now that it was 100 years ago.jthorp24;1509162; said:Are you saying that our victories over you back in the day mean nothing??? try telling that to the guys that played in the games.

Never suggested it was, but what did I say that you don't think is true? To think that the game isn't completely different now and the competition isn't 10x tougher than it was 100 years ago is naive. There's thousands of more great players and hundreds of more great coaches than there were back then. Of all people I'd think Florida fans would love to think football was invented in 1990 since they have no national titles before then.Gatorubet;1509225; said:Those who think that football was invented in 1990 agree.
