Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

How do you define serviceable? Do you believe their QBs can keep defenses honest this year?

No, of course not. Ooops - I forgot my role.

Sure they can. Not in a traditional UM straight up Offense. But with a lot of gimmicks - honest enough to win 8 games. They can beat Utah, Miami, Toledo, Minnie and NU straight up. I don't see much of a chance against Wisky, ND or OSU. So they just need to win 3 from among MSU, Ill, Purdue and PSU.

Did I say 8?

Oh yeah. The Motor City Bowl.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that they can't win 3 out of these four. MSU, Ill, Purdue and PSU.
My reason is one you brought up, the inexperience on Offense.

I'm gonna have to agree with Best Buckeye. 3 of those 4 looks like a reach right now. Illinois, Michigan State, and Purdue return loads of talent on offense. Penn State is always solid on defense (even if Lee is out). Ill, MSU, and Purdue are going to be strength on strength match ups, since scUM's strongest time will be when their offense is off the field. Big question will be can scUM hold them to few enough points to eek out a win. Penn State should be a low scoring affair, because neither team has a compelling offense.

I consider those toss-up games this year. Figure 50-50 gives them 2 wins there. So 6-7 looks probable. I'm gonna say 7-5 is about right - based purely on talent they shouldn't lose any of those 5 gimme games (Utah as a gimme might be a stretch, though). If they show any kind of competence at all in the new offensive scheme they should manage to win 2 more ugly games. It won't be a banner year, though.

Due in large part to a pretty cushy schedule this year. Despite the massive turnover UM is experiencing, it also comes at a very opportune time in conference.
Cushy? I wouldn't call it that. At Penn State, at Ohio State, at Notre Dame. We miss out on Iowa (terrible team) and Indiana (not real great either.) I think it's a very middle of the road schedule. Not real hard, not cushy either. The pluses are an easier non-conference than usual due to Notre Dame being so bad last year and Utah not being on the level of, say, Oregon. (Insert App State joke here.) Also Wisconsin and Illinois at home and early should help. In between September 13 and November 1, it's easy for the real pessimist (optimist, maybe, considering the audience here) to see us going 1-6.

Edit: It is, however, better than 2009-10, when some sadist on the schedule making crew removed Northwestern and Minnesota.

Compared with some recent UM schedules, especially the level of comp in conf, I'd say it's cushier. That's the foundation for my comment. A lot hinges on just how much ND has improved.

PSU, Ill & MSU certainly have to prove they have not dropped off from last year due to some personnel losses.

I think that oh8ch makes a lot of sense and I agree with the comments about Notre Dame. I think they will win about 7 and possibly 8. By the time they meet us, they will be able to give us a game, they won't win but it will be less embarrassing than many folks here think, in my opinion. Say, three touchdowns :slappy:

Yeah. And even if that happens, just do what Northwestern and Iowa fans do: Brag about that one win back in 2004. :)

I've always said it must be pretty sweet to be a fan of a mediocre school. You can talk shit constantly before a game and if you lose you can just shrug it off as expected, but in the off chance that you win, you can talk shit the rest of your life no matter how many times you lose in the meantime (I call this the the MAC rule of being a fan).

And then we can throw the subsequent beatdowns back in their faces:

Northwestern
2005: 48-7
2006: 54-10
2007: 58-7 (45-0 halftime)

Iowa
2005: 31-6
2006: 38-17

Accused worker says Rodriguez offered job assistance

Can this guy stay out of the legal news for just one month? How long is this going to continue before TSUN has just had enough. Regardless of how accurate this stuff is... I'm sure that the M&B folks are just tired of seeing news about the football coach that doesn't center around football.

Topping it off, remember that RR's atty. wanted the WVU Foundation embroiled in the lawsuit?

Now the WVUF is asking for $30K to defray expenses incurred to defend itself during the early stages of this suit.

The West Virginia University Foundation wants Rich Rodriguez to pay $30,000 for dragging the organization into a lawsuit over his $4 million buyout clause.
A motion filed Wednesday in Monongalia County Circuit Court in Morgantown accuses Rodriguez’s lawyers of a frivolous and unfounded attempt to make the foundation a third party to the case.
Lawyer Stephen Crislip says the foundation spent $29,461 on attorneys’ fees and $826 on other expenses. The foundation is the private fundraising arm of the university and a key contributor to athletics.

You beat me to this link...

Didn't I just mention staying out of the legal blotter for one month? He didn't even make it two hours today.

Me is starting to think that the maize color is starting to resemble dried egg on the face of the entire state... But in the end... I don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan because I'm from
