U-M coach Rich Rodriguez: On Terrelle Pryor, Ohio State trying to scout his offense and more

U-M coach Rich Rodriguez met with reporters after Thursday's practice. It was the first time the Wolverines practiced with pads this spring. He talked about a variety of topics, including Terrelle Pryor, the quarterback situation and Ohio State sending coaches to South Florida to "solve" the spread option. Here are some highlights:
On dual-threat quarterback Terrelle Pryor picking Ohio State yesterday: "I only talk about the guys that play for Michigan."
On the quarterback situation: "They've gotten better. They are very attentive, very coachable, they probably learned the system in this short period of time as well as anywhere I've been, but they've still got a lot, lot of things to work on. It's a complicated position in any offense, but particularly ours. Our quarterback has to be so in tune with everything each play entails, so it's a lot on their plate."
On his captain policy: "My policy is I pick game captains. I have a different game captain for each game, then we pick the permanent captains at the end of the year. That's the way I've always done it."
On Ohio State going to South Florida to scout Rich Rodriguez's offense already: "That happens everywhere. They aren't the only team. Every year I've coached there have been people who have visited other places to get their opinion on how to stop us. That doesn't surprise me."
Rich Rodriguez gives QBs equal reps; starter won't be named soon

Rich Rodriguez watched his new team practice for the first time in full pads Thursday afternoon. He liked the intensity. He liked that he saw a little improvement in the players' grasp of his new system. But he didn't like the conditioning level.
"I think they felt in practice that our conditioning still has a long way to go," he said. "We thought we were in shape, but not quite."
As for the quarterback competition, Nick Sheridan, Steven Threet and David Cone all got equal reps, Rodriguez said.
He said there is no leader yet to start in the fall, and that one won't be determined until the end of spring practices or maybe even until August. He said all three were learning the system and extremely coachable.

Another potential quarterback candidate who won't be taking any snaps this spring is Carlos Brown, a junior running back who played QB in high school. Rodriguez said Brown suffered a broken finger in a freak weightlifting accident and will miss the rest of spring practice. The U-M coach had planned on giving Brown reps at running back and slot receiver.
[...]
Defensive tackle Renaldo Sagesse hurt his shoulder and will miss the rest of the spring. He played in six games last fall as a freshman. ...
Junior running back Brandon Minor and senior cornerback Morgan Trent have become early vocal leaders of the team, Rodriguez said.

Why stop at just Trent? They could bring in Zibbikowski and get expert advice on how to run people down from behind.
SNIPER26;1121053; said:Actually Trent was significantly better last season. Not Charles Woodson, but he wasn't the train wreck exhibited in The Game '06 and The Rose Bowl.
Well the passer had a bit to do with that. Trent was torched for a score (or pretty close) on the first drive before a badly underthrown ball.Actually Trent was significantly better last season. Not Charles Woodson, but he wasn't the train wreck exhibited in The Game '06 and The Rose Bowl.
Roger Goodell;1121060; said:It will be interesting to see how Trent does, especially if UM sticks with this press coverage plan (hardly ideal for him).
So at the end of the year, you pick permanent captains... who, are captains for the bowl game, thus different game captain(s) again."My policy is I pick game captains. I have a different game captain for each game, then we pick the permanent captains at the end of the year. That's the way I've always done it."
I don't think I'm coming through. Here. You obviously think I'm misguided because I think whether or not U-M beats OSU next year and in the following years has more to do with U-M than OSU. That was what you originally picked up on, anyway. If you think I'm wrong, you must think that it has more to do with you than us.....which is exactly what you ought to.Steve19;1121011; said:Now, that's some funny stuff right there. Do you yell, "get 'er done!" or something, at this part of your routine?
All it proves is that I think you are severely misguided and that time will prove it so.
There was this other guy that we kept telling "that new coach is poison". Just can't recall right now...was supposed to be an offensive genius and it seems the other guy just couldn't understand that offensive had a second meaning.
Hey, that's some coach you have there.
