3yards,

Post of the thread. Nicely done.

The other day Tibor dinged me and took me from about 1600 pts. to about 600 pts. Of course his ding had a comment but was not signed. I knew it was him by the way it was written and PM'ed him about it. He said he dinged me b/c I dinged him the day before for no reason.

When I told him that I had actually given him a positive rep the day before and that it wouldn't even allow me to ding him again until I "spread around more reputation" he apologized.

So I guess what I'm saying is that one user with "clout" killed my rep for no reason except he "thought I had dinged him." That's where having the names with the dings would have fixed that problem before it started.

Also, I don't think a member with clout should have anymore effect on rep than anyone else. Rep should be based on "Total numbers of postive and neg reps. and not who they come from."

You shouldn't get clout b/c you are such a loser that you post 50 messages a day.

<HR style="COLOR: #888888" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->There needs to be something lower than pure scUM. I've been at that rating since day one. I need a lower level to aim for.
This post gets my good humor award for the day.

Signed

Lower Than sCUM

What is wrong with the system, you ask? Easy: Where is the strength of schedule? I mean, I know what my rep number is, but how does that translate to my BCS number?

Maybe anonymous dings should count less than ones with auto-sigs?

I don't support the idea of a waiting period for dinging someone who dings you, because it assumes that the 1st person who dinged the 2nd person was in the right. Typically, the party in the wrong goes for the ding before the other party does.

Seems like you've got your panties in a awfully big wad Tibor. I absolutely LOVE your comment "The worst is when you get dinged without a comment". I could pull up dozens of dings that you left folks without comment and unsigned.
Interesting......wonder if this is where my last ding came from?

As I've already said before, if you feel the need to ding me, by all means do so but at least have the fucking balls to say who your are. It isn't the ding that pisses me off it's not having the balls to say who you are. I don't expect everyone to agree with what I post but don't hide when you feel the need to tell me you don't agree with me.

FWIW I like the rep points. Some of the small changes mentioned in this thread would be good but it might be very difficult to do, and I wouldn't want that to take anything else away from this site. Whatever you decide to do Clarity is fine by me. Thanks again for creating this community, It has been a pleasure posting and more importantly reading other posts here. :biggrin2:

I think the majority has spoken. I don't think that there needs to be an abundant levels of rep values. I think that this would get too cumbersome and give too much clout. I would love to see a maximum rep level that must be maintained to affect the rep of another. If any of you have ever played a dart game by the name of killer, you will know what I'm talking about.

One must obtain say a level of ten, and then their negative rep ding to others will affect the other poster. If one is not at this maximum level, they cannot negatively ding someone until they have received the maximum level again.

Let me know if you can't understand.

No way you can do this. If every rep is worth the same no matter who gives it, then what would stop people from creating multiple names and upping their own rep? Heck, rogerMoore could come back and put tibor into the millions. At any rate, it has to matter who you got the rep from. No way somebody new with just a few good posts should have the same effect as someone who has been here contributing to the community with good posts, info, stats, etc.

HMMMMM!
1. Yes! I have cried about my "dings"....
2. Yes! I have said stupid things that deserve dings....
3. Yes! Being an ND fan on this board my rep. should not be at the level of
OSU fans here...
4. Do I bring a little outside view to this board! Yes!
5. Do I deserve the 8 million red chiclets that I have! NO

I think Rep adds to the site. I like the idea of no anon reps.. ding or positive. Some people need to chill on the value they place on their rep though. When I get dinged, I look at the post that I got dinged for, see how it could be offensive, and if I get it, I try and learn from that. If I don't get it, and I know who dinged me (rare) I'll PM them and ask them what the problem is with the post. If I don't know who dinged me, and I want to know what the deal is, I'll post in the thread that got the ding and ask what the problem was. I think the whole point is so you can get a feel for what's over the line, and what's not. Least where dings are concerned.

Plus, if there we no anon dings, you could decide if you wanted to consider a particular ding as worth consideration. That is, if a poster you don't respect dings you, you can see that and dismiss it as you see fit. Anyway, I don't know that anyone has ever been banned because they have too much negative rep. Someone said it above, the people who get all bent out of shape about it, particularly the neg, get weeded out a little quicker than they might otherwise.

Too bad you got rid of rep or I would have to ding you for getting rid of it. :p

But seriously if you want to fix it you need to get rid if the anonymity of the rep system. If people knew who gives out the dings that would get rid of the abuse. I know I've given out (mostly to flamers) and received my share of anonymous dings. Well that's my 2 cents.
I like this idea, I think the anonymity should go. I also like the rep system though, it gives you an idea of what other people think of what you have said. It also gives you an idea of the kind of comments another poster generally makes. Those that say stupid things offten have bad rep, those with insightfull well thought out posts have good rep. It helps to identify repeat flamers I guess.

Other than the unique, and I do mean unique personalities on this forum, the feedback points are the one thing to me that make Clarity's site different than any other. It give this site personality. Tweaks good, get rid of...bad.

I do not remember who said it, but it does modify bad behavior. I came in a piss and vinegar BN'er and got absolutely spanked when I went toe to toe with a veteran. However, over time I got in the groove and now feel like I can participate and not ruffle too many feathers.

Chief, couldn't care less what you think. Glad to have you. Hope you participate. But when in Rome, shut the fuck up. :)

I think it would be fun to see a "football smarts" rep system in addition to the current system. I'd never earn any (being but a humble new student of the game), but it would be a nice way to recognize those who post great game breakdowns and insightful information, regardless of how offensive they might be the rest of the time. Don't have anyone in mind, just saying... :p

If there's a way to limit negative rep for a single post, it might be nice to avoid the one-strike-and-you're-out thing you see happen sometimes. Or not; I'm a softie.

how about naming themfrom the person and adding a user ability to jsut deem good post, then under your rubies you have yoru number of good posts nominatios for your career. giving people the ability to see who is credible (hh wsstripes etc). so i guess i would take the modified system proposed by exhawg and add a good post numer under total psots. youd give good posts for credible info, rumors that were confirmed, good insight, maybe even jsut give that power to the mods. with so many new members it is hard to tell who is credible until theyve been around for months. and at this point in the recruiting process we dont have months for me to know how legit people are
