I do not remember who said it, but it does modify bad behavior. I came in a piss and vinegar BN'er and got absolutely spanked when I went toe to toe with a veteran. However, over time I got in the groove and now feel like I can participate and not ruffle too many feathers.

i kind of like the ability to ding without your name. it is your option. the internet is all about being anonymous.

i like to be able to call brettgoblow a fag in his reputation and leave him wondering about it. i don't see anything wrong with getting dirty in the comments. i would call him a fag to his face so i might as well be able to in his rep. if i go anywhere in town and see a michigan hat or shirt i make it a point to comment on it to the person.

it is too easy to max out. the different size icon would work, but i would prefer it like this. the top ten percent of all reputations get ten green things. the next ten percent get 9 and so on. basically there would be twenty grade levels, ten each for positive and negative.

Thanks all, plenty to work with here.

Rep is back on, mostly turned it off to make sure I got plenty of different opinions and perspectives. Some changes are coming, but I need to sit down and figure out what I want to do, balanced against what I'm capable of doing. There are some good ideas in this thread, and I appreciate everyone's participation and input.

Doesn't mean those who haven't chimed in shouldn't now, feel free. Just wanted to update everyone.

how do you know these were dings? I know for a fact that mods can't tell if a rep is positive or negative. Most of these were positive dumbass. Ask NDChump if you don't believe me. I had a comment for each of the dings I left him. :slappy:

A twelve hour nap? Whoa!

Is it possible to make it so a person can only give out equal numbers of positive and negative rep points? For every five negatives you must give out five positives - make it per week, or per so many posts...some kind of limiting factor.

As it is now, the board is severely weighted to the positive side. Also, the green chicklets (or red licerice whips) grow too fast for the amount of reputation a person gets. Maybe it could be geometric, or even logarithmic, instead of simply algebraic.

I think it should remain anonymous, so as positives (or negatives) aren't given out simply as rewards (or punishments) to repay somebody else's. - doing unto others just because they did unto you. Or making somebody afeered of giving, because of retribution.
