Reds Tidbits (2013 Season)

Word is they've been in touch with the Rockies about Dexter Fowler. That's a sure sign that they won't be trading for him.

Yeah, I actually started to talk about that in my last post, and then I realized it was a waste to talk about so I deleted it. Besides, I'm not the biggest Fowler fan, although he would be an upgrade over Stubbs (who wouldn't be?).

His .389 OPP from last season would look awfully good on the front end of all of those Brandon Phillips double plays though.

There is a "good chance" the Reds sign free agent infielder Jack Hannahan, a baseball source tells Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN Twin Cities radio (via Twitter). The Twins have dropped out of the running, though such teams as the White Sox, Marlins and Yankees are among the teams known to share the Reds' interest in Hannahan.
Hannahan is close enough to

Take a look at his home and road splits, then get back to me.

edit: Oh almost forgot, check his BABIP while you are at it too.

That's OK - I'm aware that he'd be a useless player. That's what the double play part of the remark was meant to illustrate.

that's cool. Just stating he won't even get to the point of being doubled up. Fowler is the double whammy of overvalued players. Plays half his games at Coors and gets incredibly lucky.

Well to be fair, if you get traded to the Reds I don't think anyone can fairly call you "lucky".

Ludwick in for 2 years, $15 mill

With Ludwick in LF, Frazier at 3B and Hannahan (supposedly) filling the Cairo role I think that will give us more aggregate production from those 3 spots than we received last year. It also looks like they are content to wait on Hamilton to save us from Warren and that his arrival might not be that far off. You look at it and they have a reasonably good player at every position, except CF, and more importantly they have quality, and depth, of organizational pitching.

I honestly think they have a 3-5 year window here to find new and creative ways to fail to win a World Series.

If last year was any indication I'm excited for this new era of heartbreak and misery. Not knowing exactly HOW you are going to get punched in the dick is a nice break from all those years of monotonous, predictable, halfhearted bag tags.

Who highjacked Jax's account?

Ludwick will return to Earth with a resounding thud, pitchers will figure out Frazier like they did at the end of last year, and my grandma hits better than Hannahan and she is dead. Phillips is getting old and due to fall off the cliff soon. Cozart is awful at getting on base. Mesaraco looked like a huge bust. Votto still states his knee is not 100%. Bruce will go through streaks where he can't hit the ball with an ironing board, and Stubbs is the worst every day starter in baseball. Hanigan, like always, you're cool.

This team is completely screwed offensively. This offense is going to make last year's offense look like the '27 Yankees.

They suck.

Shin-Soo Choo - OF - Indians

CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Reds are "deep in talks" with the Indians to acquire outfielder Shin-Soo Choo.

The Indians would receive center fielder Drew Stubbs and shortstop Didi Gregorius in return. Meanwhile, the Reds would get another player in addition to Choo. Knobler hears that the Indians plan to use Choo in center field and out of the leadoff spot. It's an interesting fit from a defensive perspective, as Choo has only played center field 10 times in the majors, including once since 2006, but he would fit very nicely in their lineup. The 30-year-old projects to make around $7-8 million in arbitration this winter and can become a free agent next offseason.
