Reds Tidbits (2013 Season)

no worries. Mes and his sub mendoza line batt avg are here to save the day!

Our up the middle defense will be strong but they can't hit for fuck.

Willie Mays Hay's at 2nd looks like Mickey Mantle compared to Stubbs/Cozart/Mes.

On days when Mes is in the lineup you'll have 4 guys (including the P) with sub .300 OBP skills to make sure that the corner guys (who can actually hit) aren't distracted by any base runners.

The worst mistake they can make this year is to think they can stand pat and win 95+ games again next year. They need to make a bold move with the offense. It is simply OBP starved.

There are players out there to be had thats for sure.

Melky Cabrera just signed a cheap two year contract with Toronto today.

Damn Canadians must be paying them with their money.

I believe Jockey mentioned Pagan is asking for too much. It seems the Reds are only looking for Ludwick taking a cheap deal or possibly trading for someone. I was as surprised as anyone the Reds opened up the wallet for Votto and Phillips, yet from all reports the Reds are up against it money wise. Look for the Reds to hope to get Ludwick cheap, get the best deal they can for a bullpen arm, and then either get a trade or simply go into next season with what they have.

BTW...that is more than I thought Cabrera would get. I was expecting either a 1 year, 8 million dollar deal or a 2 year, 6 per with incentives. If the Reds are lucky Luckdick signs for cheap and no one wants Victorino so they can get him cheap too. Yet that is unlikely.

The Reds are looking for scraps with some luck, but I guess I can't complain. If they can get Soria/Madsen, Ludwick on the cheap, and maybe a trade for a CF that is the best I can hope for. That would be a better team than the one that just won 97 games.

I like all those moves, but I don't think that gets us back to 97 wins. My biggest concern is an expectation that the pitching will repeat its '12 performance. Other than Madson and Massett injuries, we pretty much got near peak level production from everybody (probably some more ceiling to Latos). Obviously, moving Chapman to the rotation ups the ante on the starters, but other than that, counting on another year of an incredibly healthy starting rotation and some really solid years out of the bullpen I don't see much more potential. If anything, I'd expect a regression in pitching in '13.

4/5 starting pitchers are young, entering their prime years. The lone older starter, Arroyo, returned to career norms after a bad year in 2010. I don't think last year was a convergence of career years from the starters - these guys aren't Steve Parris or Elmer Dessens. Maybe they won't be as healthy as they were this past season, but in terms of efficiency and performance I expect them to pick up where they left off - up and down performace, but a net positive for the team.

I think finding bats on the left side of the field is going to be the bigger issue.

I know it's not real scientific but to me you never hear Ludwicks name in any of the FA OF conversations so I'm hoping that means most people around baseball know he's coming back.

If that is indeed the case, Frazier and Ludwick on the left side with Votto and Bruce on the right make the corners plenty good enough. It's the god forsaken, hacktastic, no OBP skills bullshit up the middle that holds this offense back (I'm looking at you Warren).

I suppose my biggest concern is health. Just seems really unlikely we'll be that lucky again. And as patient as I'm willing to be with Leake (it paid off with Homer), he's a fucking batting tee. Who's the next man up? Todd Redmond? Pedro Villarreal?

I was watching an old Tosh.0, and they were talking about Google's auto complete. He stated if you type "is " (make sure you add the space) "is Daniel Tosh gay" shows up third. So I went to check it out, and he is down to 8th now. Guess what is 7th. "is Joey Votto gay"

Reds sign Emmanuel Burriss to a minor league deal. Now that they have Webster, there's a physical midget to go with all the mental ones. Let the winning commence.

Not only that, they officially finished off the Brandon Phillips trade/ass fucking of the Tribe with a resounding donkey punch as they signed Stevens back to a minor league deal.
