Reds Tidbits (2013 Season)

Reds sign Broxton to a rumored 3 year deal. No money announced.

I don't put a lot of importance on closers, but they are still nice to have. If this really is for him becoming a closer, I am very leery about it. He is very Corederoesque. He loves to put guys on base and magically weasel out of an inning. Eventually those guys go bust in horrific fashion. I really hope last year was a step back to his old self and not just luck.

Same here.

2 WHIP saves do not add to my enjoyment of the game (and god knows I wouldn't want to interrupt the 6 month long, unbroken stream of frolicking and fun that is Reds baseball)

Can we afford to resign Aroldis when his contract is up? He will demand twice the 6 mil per he is getting now..Please lord get of Cairo and Valdez.Id rather have one of Jerrys Kids at the dish...Willie Mays Hayes looks like freakin Ty Cobb compared. To those a**clowns

This deal is debatable at best in a vacuum, but since it's going to put Chapman into the rotation, I'll hold out hope that Broxton can pitch like he did last year for the Reds for at least the first 2 years of the deal. Hoover or someone was never going to close under Dusty. Cueto-Chapman-Latos-Bailey has a chance to be the best top 4 in the NL.

Unrelated baseball post: baseball contracts are just bananas. BJ Upton, the 11th best player at his position according to fangraphs, gets $75 million. LeBron is one of the best players ever at his sport and he gets $110 million.

can't wait for another year of winter meetings where all these teams make deals to make themselves better while the Reds sit on their hands and do nothing, and be like, but we're waiting on Rolen to give us an answer!

Some of the money being thrown around is ridiculous. There is no way would I endorse Walt signing Victorino at 3/39 or Pagan at 4/40.

I would have liked to see them go after Denard Span though. Dexter Fowler is somebody who I'd like to see them go after as well, but I'm not sure he's available.

I think at this point you keep your powder dry and wait for Hamilton, especially after his AFL showing.

Then of course I back up the U haul, fill it with all the dry powder in the farm system and go get Stanton from Miami. :wink2:

So the Red Sox are going to sign Victorino to, get this, 3 years $39 million. WTF? They signed Gomes and Victorino to insane contracts. I guess they figure they can always just dump them on the Dodgers if they don't work out.

Not sure it's huge, but it is nice. Huge will be getting a real CFer who can get on base from the leadoff spot. I can live with the 4 spot being somewhat weak if the leadoff spot is good.

Word is they've been in touch with the Rockies about Dexter Fowler. That's a sure sign that they won't be trading for him.
