Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

I know what this team is up to. They are a clever bunch. They are trying to get me to think they are good. Then the minute I start to believe that they will flip me the bird and yell "haha sucker, you got your hopes up. Idiot."

Well I'm not falling for it dammit!

Talk on RZ that a blue wahoos player, not Billy, forget the name, was shaking hands and with players in dugout in a good bye fashion.. Also phillies scout was in attendance.. Possible trade announced today?

He was talking about Daniel Corcino, who is the Reds 2nd best pitching prospect. At least it wasn't Cingrani, who is pretty much the heir apparent to Arroyo's spot.

We'll see if it is much ado about nothing. If they actually gave up Corcino for Victorino or Pierre it's a horrible trade. I am not sure Corcino will ever amount to anything. His physical attributes and pitches are not exactly off the charts. Yet he has more value than getting a rental who is not much of an upgrade if any. Add even more dislike to it if Stubbs is included.

IMO, picking up Victorino will go a hell of a lot further into the post season than having a prospect pitcher that may or may not amount to anything in the pros. If it's Victorino, I'm all for it... If it's Pierre, hell no.

I'm just not as sold on Victorino. It would be a move just to make a move. I don't think he makes much of a difference. A rental player where you give up a top 10 prospect needs to make a clear difference, and Victorino is not that player. He is worth a mid level prospect and a player to be named later.

He's more solid at the plate than Heisey or Stubbs, and his defense isn't a complete liability, so I think it could only help to make a run in the post season.

He gets on base 2 more times per 100 AB's than Stubbs. Stubbs is a better defender. Both have similar slugging. So you are giving up one of the teams better prospects for probably 4 more times on base and most likely giving up a couple more hits for the rest of the year. Victorino is also brutal from the left side of the place, so he doesn't help vs. righties. Right now Victorino is really, really close to what the Reds already have.

Victorino does have a better history and maybe he is due for a hot streak. Yet he has played very similar to Stubbs this year. I know Stubbs has been terrible, but so has Victorino.

I just think the days of the Phillies just strolling into the post season are over. Some of the other teams in the division have caught up to them on terms of talent, and it's really showing. I think Victorino just needs a change of scenery, because he really is due for a hot streak this season.

and he's on my fantasy team... :paranoid:

Alonzo is really the only one I'm missing from the trade. Mesoraco and Grandal can't exist together at the same level. Alonzo was getting time in in Left which would have eventually paid off, imo. Latos started terrible and still has one gopher ball per outing but he knows how to bear down when he needs it and at times looks like an ace.

With the state of baseball these days, if you get a guy that looks like an ace every other or every third outing, you might as well be happy with it and move on.

Looking back on it, I think I'd rather have Grandal over Mesoraco... Grandal has been hitting the ball well for the Padres when he gets his chances.

5 HR's, 15 RBI, 13 runs off 24 hits in 77 at bats.

Yeah, hindsight and all of that. I'm assuming they went for Mes' defense over Grandals. I also don't think they saw Grandal blowing it up on offense his first times up either. Thats the way it goes I guess.

My first reaction is "you gotta be fucking kidding me" but then I remember it's Walt and Dusty, see the faces of Patterson and Willie T smiling back at me and I think "makes perfect sense (to them)."

Just what we fucking need, an older, slower more expensive version of Stubbs.
