Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Richly deserved. And that is an understatement.

There are remarkably few professional athletes about whom an unkind word was rarely spoken.

Fewer still never to have an unkind word spoken of them.

Larkin was one of those few.

One of the classiest fellows to wear the Reds uniform - ever.
Well....there is 1 unkind thing you can say about him. Other than that, though.....I love me some Barry Larkin.

Congrats #11.

Hard to believe there was a debate on who would win the shortstop job, Barry or Kurt Stillwell. Congrats Barry- one of my all time favorite Reds. Larkin should have won about 5 more gold gloves if it wasn't for Ozzie Smith winning on name alone towards the end of his career.

Skunkbear :shake:

I became aware of the Reds and baseball before I became aware of Ohio State and how much I hate M*ch*g*n, and it was about the time that I became aware of baseball that Larkin's career was getting going. When I was a little leaguer he was the player I wanted to be like.

I'm glad he got in on this year's ballot. Next year's vote is going to be a circus with all the steroid guys becoming eligible. His candidacy would've been swallowed up by it, perhaps never to be heard from as strongly again. For one of the top ten shortstops of all time, that would have been a shame.

I'm 41 years old...In my lifetime I have seen Tony Perez, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tom Seaver and Barry Larkin play for my favorite team all go in to the Hall of Fame...and that doesn't include Pete Rose and Dave Concepcion who I think should be as well and Ken Griffey, Jr. who will be...and other greats like Cesar Geranimo, Paul O'Neil, Dave Parker and Dan Driessen.

We've been lucky to have so many greats wear the wishbone 'C' on their chest. Congrats to the home town kid who got to play for his home town team for his entire career. 1990 will never be forgotten.
