Reds tidbits (2010 season)

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RauddFfrNg&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube- Ray Knight & Rob Dibble bring out the rulers[/ame]

I didn't realize that Rob Dibble and White Dusty Baker (Ray Knight) were among the multitudes of former Reds who now work for the Nats. Apparently they got into what's been described as a "televised [censored]ing match" on the air after Strasburg's most recent start. The back-and-forth doesn't live up to its billing. Most of the entertainment for me comes from the assertion by White Dusty that Strasburg should throw fewer strikes.

Also, I watch that video and can't help but imagine the Nationals broadcast team being comprised of Pete Mackanin and Todd Coffey or some [censored] like that. They sure love them some former Reds out there.

I listened to those idiots when the Reds played the Nationals. It was excruciating. The first night Dibble was the color guy, and he is not only obnoxious the entire broadcast but he is an idiot too. He bitched and moaned the whole time, and it was normally about stuff a 2 year would understand but he just couldn't grasp. He said he had never seen an umpire overule another umpire (it was the play where West overruled the call on third where the Nats player came off the bag). It doesn't happen all the time, but I know I have seen multiple times the umps get together and then change a call. Dibble then spent the rest of the broadcast bitching about the call and went on some rant about how umpires cannot change judgment calls (which is completely wrong, they can change it before the next play), and basically called Joe West an idiot (which is sort of true, but not called for in this case). The funniest thing about all of it is before the umps overturned the call he saw the replay and said "he was out, the Nats got a break" etc. So he spent a ton of time complaining about the umpires getting a call right.

On the second night I thought "good, no Dibble." Wow was I wrong. Knight might be an even bigger idiot. We wasn't quite obnoxious as Dibble, but just as stupid. He also spent about an hour bitching about Phillips play at home in that game. Just ignored the rest of the game and droned on and on about Phillips play at home where he thumped his chest.

Those guys made me yearn for Thom.

5 in a row. Rhodes ties MLB record for consecutive scoreless appearances and has a scoreless inning tally at 33, while Votto pushes his consecutive games on-base streak to 34 (longest since Doug Collins in '81).

Interesting tweet from John Fay last night, BTW. Harang: Of the 33 runs he's allowed at GABP, 17 have score via HRs. Of the 20 run he's allowed on the road, only 4 have score via HR.

I'd mass tweet that to every MLB GM.

Twice.

Phillips on top of his game at top

Brandon Phillips has been tearing up opposing teams' pitching for nearly two months and entered Saturday's game against Cleveland leading the National League in runs scored with 56.

Phillips was hitting .371 in June after a .316 performance in May and was second in the NL with 91 hits.

"To tell the truth, when you're winning you just have a different attitude in the way you approach the game," Phillips said. "My job is to get on base for the big dogs like Johnny Gomes and Scott Rolen and Joey Votto so they can drive me in."

Phillips did not know he was leading the league in runs.

"That means I'm doing my job and I'm getting on base," Phillips said. "Hopefully I continue doing that. For me to be leading the league in runs is saying that I'm doing my job and the team is doing theirs."

The Reds second baseman hit just .236 in April before being moved out of the cleanup spot in the order.

In the No. 2 hole, Phillips was hitting .326 with a .382 on-base percentage in 162 at-bats. In 15 plate appearances in the leadoff spot, Phillips was hitting .467 with a matching .467 on-base percentage

Cont'd ...

Would like to see Brandon improve his baserunning before I say I love the move to leadoff. 10 SB in 17 attempts isnt very good.

Still, if it works leave it alone. And yet, the first thing Dusty says is "Im not sure how long we'll leave him in the cleanup spot....."

What a total dumbass. He'd change the order just for spite I think. :smash:
