Reds tidbits (2010 season)

Good news....1/2 in first place
Bad news....4-6 homestand, 41 home games left, 54 on the road

They really needed to do better on this home stand. From here until the All Star break it's going to be a rough stretch. If they go .500 in that time I will be happy.

This team simply cannot hit good pitching. It seems like every time they go up against one of the better pitchers in the league they barely can score a run let alone actually score above the guy's ERA.

They tear up bad pitching, but struggle beyond belief against he good ones.

Uhhh, isn't that the case with most teams?

I am tired of seeing the Reds having some of the best hitting stats in the league and watching them actually lower the ERA for pitchers like Lee, Carpenter, Kershaw, Grienke, Cain, etc. If they were a truly good hitting team they would be able to score runs higher than those pitchers ERA's. Instead they feast on poor pitching, even more so than other teams, and their stats make it look like they can actually hit. Yet when it comes time to really show their stuff vs. the better ones in the game they get shut out our score 1 run.

There's a reason those guys are the best pitchers in the leaguer, teams can't hit them.

I guess it seems like you're pointing out the obvious.

First of all, no pitcher is unhittable.

Second, it seems you are ignoring the obvious. Those pitchers are good, but a good scoring team should be able to score runs at or above those pitchers ERA. At least on a fairly regular basis.

I am not asking them to score 20 runs against those guys. Just get across 3 or 4 in 9 innings. That is below the Reds average, but at or above those pitcher's ERA. Good hitting teams should not be lowering good pitcher's ERA's on a consistent basis. All it proves is one thing, the Reds are not that good of a hitting team. They score runs in bunches against terrible pitching (more so than other teams), but when it comes time to beat one of the better pitchers they can't even score runs above what those pitchers normally allow.
