Reds tidbits (2010 season)

Like the Cabrera signing, downgrades the defense, but upgrades the offense. The question is if the offensive upgrade exceeds the defensive downgrade, and I think it does. O-Cabs isn't as bad a defender as last year, so we can throw that out.

As for Gomes, I'm a Balentein fan, I'm hesitant on Heisey, but i like him, and I'm not a Francisco fan. I think Francisco will get exposed at the major league level, his small sample size last year aside. Dickerson's bat doesn't play there, and Nix is a good bench guy. So for me personally, it comes down to Balentien vs. Gomes. Balentien has all the tools, but if he doesn't finally translate his awesome minor league numbers to the majors, I give the job to Gomes.

If Cabrera was 30 instead of 36 he would fill a long term need for this team.

If the Reds get 2 serviceable years out of him that's a good thing. I see there seems to be a push to give it to Janish full time, but his offense isn't MLB-level.

Unless Janish can show different OC is better than what we have and a nice bridge until they can find the SS of the future. I like it.

I'm still having a hard time reconciling the notion that this is the same GM who thought outbidding the rest of MLB (as if) for Tavaras was a good idea but I'm liking what I see from him lately.

Keep it up Walt.

Shit. His offense isn't AA-level.

Worse than that, .205/.290/.292 (Janish's career line, small sample duly noted) is sub Juan Castro (at least in slg).

You have to work at having less pop than Juan Castro.

Hey I'm just trying to be fair - you know, since I'm not actually a Reds fan but since essentially unless I watch E$PN the only games I'll get to watch are Reds games.

Yes. And that's bad. Certain players should be allowed to roid up :p

I loved Rosales' energy, but he wasn't an MLB player. Miles is an overpaid utility guy, but he's cheaper than Tavares and Dusty can't possibly start him over any of the existing infielders. This is a massive fucking win. :banger:

I don't give a tinkers damn who we got back. Your ball club is better the second Willy fucking Tavaras is no longer a part of it. What Beane was thinking is beyond me but who cares, the long nightmare is over.

In reading RZ, it looks like T-Virus has already been DFA'd by Oakland. In essence they just bought Rosales, which is plenty fine by me.

It's too bad Leatherpants got canned in Washington. Willy would've had a job waiting for him there for sure.

Shout to the hills! Its a miraculous day.

Btw, jlb's post made me wonder, how many here are a member of RZ?

I am, but I'm a Sun Decker and rarely if ever post. Heck, I don't really even read the Sun Deck, I just sign in so I can read the ORG.

I might be inclined to post over there more if the Reds were actually worth a damn.
