Reds tidbits (2010 season)

So, it's January 22.... can I assume the Reds have been eliminated from the 2010 pennant race?

Barring a rash of health and productivity along with the departure of Dusty and Willy T, yeah you are probably pretty safe for 2010.

2011 and beyond might actually be a different story, we shall see.

Reds interested in Orlando Cabrera

Reds Have Interest In Cabrera, Amezaga: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

I like it if Frazier isnt able to move from 2B to SS and it's only a 1 year deal.

My question is on the Frazier thing. If he supposedly can't handle 2B why are they trying him at SS (Insert Dusty being a fucking moron reference here)? Frazier at 2B and BP at SS would seem to make more sense on the surface if we are trying position changes.

Also, speaking of position changes, hopefully we see a lot of Votto in LF during ST. The 2011 lineup is much better and the defense no worse with Votto in LF and Alonzo at 1B (assuming both are still Reds and Alonzo pans out of course).

The latest rumor (which probably will never happen) is Johnny Damon. Initially I am against paying any vet to play LF this year until we sort out the gaggle of in house talent and see who can do what. Arm of a 9 year old girl aside, Damon would certainly be an instant upgrade to our lead off woes (assuming we could pry the pre printed "1.Tavaras 8" lineup cards from Dustys cold dead fingers) so I guess I could live with it but I doubt it happens.

Oof. That could be good or bad.

The good: my wife might want to go to more Reds games
The bad: I'd probably have to go to more Reds games

Jax, this is quite possibly the stupidest thing you've ever written.

You know damn well that the Reds will be only 6-1/2 games out in July so will deal Votto for the Pirates' 5th starter, 'cause that'll be what'll put them over the hump!

They might trade him for Vernon Wells to ease the impact of losing Willy T. Dusty needs a massively overpriced, veteran outfield vortex of suck to pour AB's into.

Too lazy to link but according to Fays blog Walt says offers have been extended to O Cabrera and J Gomes (minor league deal).

Don't see the need for Gomes but I'd be happy to get a year of OC to see if an answer for SS appears from within. Janish may field like Ozzie Smith but hits like shit.

I would agree about Cabrera. An infield of Rolen, Cabrera, Phillips and Votto doesnt sound too bad at all. Especially if it allows Janish to be a late inning defensive replacement. Gomes would be a nice bat to have coming off the bench, but he seems interchangeable with a number of veterans that I am sure Dusty is going to want to take a look at.

I love Gomes. He provides power, can win a game offensively basically by himself, and brings tons of energy to the team. I would love to have him starting out in LF, and really, I don't give a crap about his defense, every other player on the field is above average to plus defensively.

I'm with you in that my give a fuck factor for LF defense is pretty low but I just think we should seeing what emerges from this gaggle of prospects we have for LF before we use a guy like Gomes.

I like the minor league contract to have him around in case Balentine, Fransisco and company all do a collective face plant and I hope he takes the deal.
