Reds tidbits (2010 season)

So if SF wins the Reds play Philly. If SD wins then SF plays SD again, and then the loser plays Atlanta. And the Reds would either play Atlanta, or if the wild card comes from the West, then the Reds play the winner of the West. In either case, no homefield advantage.

Is this correct?

I don't think the Reds would play Atlanta as a wild card, they would play Philly I think. The only way they don't play Philly is if SD wins and the loser of the west tiebreaker beats Atlanta. So, go SD!

Typical of being a Reds fan.

A chance to see both NL West teams make it in and thereby avoid Philly in round 1 heading into the last day of the year blows up in our face.

Braves win, Giants will win, Reds will play Philly and get swept. Fuck.

As it stands though, I love our bullpen over theirs in this series. If we can somehow chase a starter or at least have the game within a run or two when they leave we have a pretty good chance. Going to have to nearly shut the Phillies down though to pull it off.

At least every one else in the world besides the Phillie fans, and maybe Cardinal fans, will be rooting for the Redlegs in this series. That will be nice for a change.

The last time we werent given a chance to win it, it all worked out just fine.

The only positive thing I can see is that usually in sports when it looks like this much of a mismatch on paper it turns out to be much closer.

(I am convinced this is God's way of having fun with people who bet on heavy favorites but that's just a theory. Only Tim, or Urban by proxy, would know for sure.)

What the hell, right? They have zero to lose. I'd love to see them put a scare into the Phils. Maybe give that old fat bastard Manuel his comeuppance for the All Star Game bullshit.

Small sample size (I believe Volquez has two career starts vs the Phillies), but Rollins, Howard, Utley, and Victorino are a combined 3-for-25 in their careers off EV. The Reds are 1-1 against Halladay this year, and Halladay did not even get the decision in the one the Reds lost. This group appears to have finally "solved" Oswalt, too.

Reds took 2 of 3 from the Phils in June, then had the 4 game sweep in July, which saw three of the four go extras, a pair of 1-0 games, and the Reds blow a 6 run lead in the 9th. I don't know how much weight to put into the July sweep since both teams were shorthanded (the Phils were without Utley and Polanco, the Reds were without Hernandez and Rolen, plus Bruce and Gomes were in terrible slides).

The Phillies are the best team in the NL, but they are not invincible. If the Reds can scratch out some runs and get 5 good innings from the starters, Rhodes, Chapman, Bray and Wood in the pen is a ridiculous amount of lefty arms to throw at the Phillies in the late innings.

All good points.

The Phils are rightfully favored but much bigger upsets than this have happened.
