Someone please 'splain to me why the kid is not our closer? Cordero fucking sucks right now. Does he have pictures of Dusty at a strip club?
Dusty and his loyalty to veterans ...

Just read that the Cubs sweep in St. Louis last night was the first time the Cubs have swept a 3-game series in St. Louis in the 15 years LaRussa has been there.

Did you see Cordero's reaction when Bruce picked that ball over the wall? Priceless. His sphincter was so tight watching that ball you could not have got a toothpick up there. LOL

Rumor is that some teams actually play all the way into October.

That's about the time bandwagonskickbuttocks starts watching "his" team. Unless they make it to the world series and he can wait until November.

Fay reports Baker exploded this morning on the Chapman/Cordero question.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/

There were some people who didn't like the shit I was doing from the time we started. They didn't like my lineup. They didn't like this. They didn't like whatever the hell they didn't like. I cant worry about those people.

Those people don't manage this ballclub. Those people don't understand the psychological dynamics of your ballclub. There were people who wanted Dickerson to play. Then they were booing Dickerson. There were people wanted Nix to play. There were people who wanted Bruce sent to the minor leagues. There were people who wanted Heisey to play everyday. There were people wanted Stubbs sent to the minor leagues. There were people who wanted Masset out of here. They were booing Masset.

I don't care what people say. People go with who is hot at the time. I've got to look at the overall big picture, the dynamics and psychology of my ball club.

...

We thought we had Coco fixed. He saved 18 of 19. But people only remember the last couple times. You look at the list of guys who have blown saves ... he is not the leader. He was walking people before. Now, he's throwing too many fat strikes. That's the start -- when you throwing strikes and not walking people. We're trying to fix the situation where we are now. Then everybody is doing what they're supposed to do.

In a sense, I can't disagree with Dusty here. This is why players will run through a wall for Dusty. This is why the team is even in first. It's a microcosm of how Dusty, who is universally considered a poor tactical manager, could be three outs from winning the World Series in SF, and three outs from getting to a World Series in Chicago.

The psychological effect on the rest of the team can't be discounted, but at what point should we expect these players to stop running through brick walls for their manager and start running through brick walls for themselves, for wins, for championships?

However, he (and others) keep citing "18 of 19" and stuff like that. How many of those 18 looked like last night's "save". Cordero has lucked out or been bailed out more times than I can count. On the whole, his performance has been unacceptable.

I have to agree. He's functionally retarded but he knows how manage the personalities and in a 162 game season, if you have decent talent, the clubhouse part is more important.

The dream would be for him to have a little bit of a clue on run creation, bullpen usage and the like while still being the good leader but I"ll take what we can get after the last 15 years.

Did Volquez get ahold of some killer fertility drugs in Dayton last week? Where the hell has this Volquez been?

2 IP, 17 pitches, 12 strikes.

IIRC he was quoted as saying he was just having issues with his mechanics/release point from the rust of the layoff from TJ surgery. It appears he has remembered to breathe through his eyelids and has found his release point again.

It sure would be nice to be able to count on the recent Volquez and Homer in the rotation for next year.
