Reds tidbits (2010 season)

You're asking for it when you trot out a relief pitcher whose number is in the 60s.

You're asking for it when you walk the guy in front of Pujols on 4 pitches. At least I didn't pay for my ticket tonight and got my ugly ass "fleecie."

Oh, and listening to WLW on the way home, first caller of the first Extra Innings show of the year, first words out of his mouth...

"Fire Dusty Baker!" :slappy:

Must have been Jax.

 it wasn't me.

BTW, I admit it. I was positive for a while, I bought the bullshit for a couple of weeks. I honestly thought they could be a .500 team.

No more. You might as well start the trade discussions now. These guys suck moose cock.

So I get that Reds fans are fucking done with the season already, but... really?
Carpenter, Wainwright?

We're 0-2... 160 to play...

If we were 2-0 against Carpenter and Wainwright, we would be headed for a WC berth at least... since we lost, the season is over.

As long as you fuckers give up, I'll be able to get some pretty good seats this year.

Enjoy the $1 hot dogs.

I have a feeling you'll be seeing them soon.

I'm closer to M-achoo- excuse me, sorry, than I am to Cincinnati

My goal would be 5 games, but 2 would be considered acceptable.

I've got relatives in the 45 minute range, other than that, I can't make the trip to CTown due to job requirements... bottom line...

I'd love the $1 hot dogs. We'll see how it goes.

But is this team done-skis? I think we need to give them more time to fuck it up.... which they will probably take advantage of, but whatever....

Perfect example of why any self-taught, know-it-all sabermatrician without an ounce of real baseball experience would be a better manager than Dusty Baker: It's the 7th inning of a tie ballgame and you go to the 'pen, who do you summon?

No, don't get any of the three or four top relief pitchers in your organization (let alone the NL Central, if not two or three of the top relievers in the entire NL), instead trot out some numbnut that just made the roster out of Spring training so you can save the good pitchers for that imaginary lead you think you'll still have in the 8th and 9th innings, after numbnut fans the heart of the Cardinals order.

I'm fucking sick and tired of watching Dusty give away games in the 7th and 8th inning because he's saving Cordero or Rhodes for a later inning when they can pitch to the opposing teams' 6-7-8 hitters. Sometimes games need saved in the 7th Dusty.

I don't know exactly what the metric/statistic for this phenomena is, but I'm going to guess Dusty gives away 8-10 games a season with his handling of the bullpen. It is hands-down my biggest gripe with the way he manages. He's a players' coach that manages situationally, such as not using Cordero unless it's a statistical save situation according to the book. Fucking wonderful. Glad the Reds are paying $12 or $15 mil (or whatever the hell it is for this year) for a reliever that will only make 25 to 30 appearances this season.

Usually the Reds hang around in 4th place through May before doing a half gainer into last place. This year they look determined to go wire-to-wire.

I'm going to Friday's game vs. the Cubs. It's NKU night, so I get half-price tickets. I'll be in the field box section right next to the scout seats. With Homer Bailey on the mound I was a little tempted to get outfield seats and take home a few souvenirs, but I can still afford to sit out there on another day when I have to pay full price. Honestly, I'm surprised I was able to get tickets this good off the Reds website last night. I figured Cubs fans would've snatched them up by now.

Don't even get me started on the stupidity of deploying a pen by inning vs by leverage of the situation. One of the last bastions of abject old school baseball stupidity still alive and well today and of course The Dusty is a disciple.

There is hope in terms of talent by man oh man do we still have a lot of house cleaning to do. You are never going to win anything significant with Dusty Baker managing your team no matter the talent level.

Bottom 1st, 1 out 2 on, willie mays phillips strides to the plate and ...you guessed it, swings at the first pitch. Weak fly ball, 2 outs which might as well be 3 because the reds do not get 2 out hits as Rolen quickly demonstrates.

0-0 end 1
