Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Great bounce back by Arroyo today.

I'll go ahead and put two whammies on them in one shot....the bats seem to be coming alive and they can win their second straight series with a win tommorow. (Now they will be shut out by O Perez)

So far you're correct. I really wanted to see Cueto get his form back, he's not getting any help in the outfield today either. Griffey is definitely afraid of Ryan Freel in center. You could tell by the way he pulled up at the end on that double that he was afraid Freel was going to crash into him.

-How many more beatings before they have to consider sending Cueto down or to the pen? I know we all want to be excited about young pitching but a 6 ERA is a 6 ERA. As I keep saying, the pitching is nowhere near as good as poeple think it is. Volquez is going to level out and other than Harang everyone else is sporadic at best. Homers on the way? Great, he'll do exactly what Cueto is doing when he gets here. My fear is that by the time the younger guys are ready to make a solid rotation Harang will start to decline.

-If anyone still has any doubts about what an absolutely abysmal outfield defense we have I don't know what else you need to see. Not MLB caliber play.

-I don't honestly give a fuck about the 600 homerun bullshit, trade JR and Dunn for whatever you can get.

The outfield defense has driven me crazy for years. I'll be crucified for this but without a DH spot Adam Dunn is vastly overrated. I'd rather save the money on him and go with a youngster or a jose guillen, juan encarnacion type player off of the scrap heap.

I don't follow baseball as closely as a once did but the times I've watched the Reds this year they're god awful. Going to a play a game in '99 was the worst thing to ever happen to the Reds. For the better part of a decade ownership has believed this team was close to contention and a piece away from contending. Leading to such great moves as Eric Milton. The right move would be to trade Dunn, Harang, Arroyo and other movable veteran. It'll hurt we'll bottom to one of the worst teams in baseball but the current system isn't working. Save the money and actually sign 1st round draft picks ie Jeremy Sowers fiasco, invest in and expand international scouting and build a young core of players up.

Betting out of order. Un-fucking-real. In the immortal words of Bob Knight, "I'd like to refer to this whole thing from start to finish as a real Mickey Mouse operation. But that would be an insult to Mickey Mouse."

Just to add to the comment above about trying to win now, the sick part is we could bring Bruce up for RF and Dickerson up to play CF and be better defensivley and no worse offensively RIGHT THE FUCK NOW.

Cory Patterson has a .250 OBP folks, thats no bullshit, thats just flat out hard to do. I guarandamntee you almost any all glove no hit guy you bring up from the minors can do that. Also, any guy(Dickerson) you bring up to hopelessly flail away at a .250 OBP clip will only cost the league minimum, not 3M as CP managed to get from us this year.

In RF, its just fucking time. JR isn't very good anymore and we have the best prospect in baseball waiting to play a better defensive RF and probably hit just as well right now. Fuck 600 HR's and fuck JR's ego. Play the better player and do it now.

The other thing you can do is quit having the shitty OF hitters at the top of every lineup, if you look at most of our lineups the highest OPS guys are at the bottom. Or you could get a competent MLB manager but the ship has sailed on that argument, Bob C thinks Dusty is good and ultimately that is why we will always fail.

Every organization takes on the charachter of the person at the top and when that guys an imbecile, well...

A team that bats out of order completely loses all respect from me. Jax, post of the year to me so far. Who are some of the draft prospects we should be checking in on? Don't answer that please, it was a joke and I know this isn't the NBA.

You have to admit that we have looked just down right stupid at times over the past week, but we have played some of the best baseball in terms of wins/losses we have seen all year...Maybe things are turning for us???

If we could give Harang half the run support we gave him tonight he would be a 18+ game winner...I bet he has 3-4 games this season where he lost but gave up 4 or less runs...

May 12 Hal McCoy, of the Dayton Daily News, reports Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said OF Jay Bruce will be recalled soon.

Please let this be true...I don't care if Patterson covers more ground, but I can't take him in the lineup any longer...Bruce will bring a lot of excitement and he is crushing AAA right now...Just needs to work on his plate discipline, but my opinion of that is it is hard to work on it when you know that you can mash the pitching down there, kinda like I am sure most feel when playing slow pitch softball, it is hard to lay off the ball and take a walk when you know or think you can wack it...He needs a challenge...

Also rumors going around about JR's return to Seattle...

Wouldn't you have to consider Junior's tenure in Cincinnati one of the bigger sports disappointments in recent memory? I remember such a big deal being made about him coming back to play for his hometown team and he was still in his prime. Too bad he couldn't stay healthy.

I agree but he won't leave before the end of the season. Seattle is well below .500 and I don't think they believe the way to get back on track is to trade for an over the hill outfielder who can't hit .250

As bad as he's scuffeling, JR is a major upgrade for their DH spot.

Now is that enough for them to start winning, doubtful. JR will sell some tickets in Seattle, no matter what. I say ship him back before the 600 and add to his value somewhat.

Anything we get back at all is fine, he just needs to go.
