Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Considering 1B boasts most of your dominant hitters, 5th for Joey Votto is very respectable. I'm sure the 3 HR game didnt hurt him any.

I figured E5 would be higher actually. He's completely changed my opinion of him over the last few weeks and I hope he continues. I expect to see him top 3 by end of the season.

BP had a bit of a slump and Chase Utley is a friggin monster. I expect those two to be #1,#2 by the end also.

Good for Bako and Keppinger. Most of us really didnt expect this type production I'm guessing. We knew Kep could hit but he's over achieved.

How significant will the improvement be when Jay Bruce gets the call up? I'm hearing rumblings that the brass are just waiting on JR. to hit 600 and then make the move for PR purposes. They dont want him hitting 600 for another team. I can see that but if we're going to do that at least bring up Bruce so he can start getting acclimated prior to the switch. I want to see if he can handle the big leaguers before I want to label him as the saviour as most have done. Adam Dunn hopefully just had a bad April. If he gets the lumber going in the other direction he'll be fine. I wonder do you think he's been pressing so far this year trying to carry everyone and just hasnt gotten it on track? I think maybe so. I look for him to get his average back up to the .260-.270 range before the All Star break and start mashing the HR's. The pitching just needs to hang in there minus Bronson and Belisle, they're done imo, and keep firing at it until the momentum changes. As bad as they've played thus far, they arent out of the race by a long shot.

The only teams to win a series from the Dbacks this season are Philly and our enigma of a team the Cincinnati Reds.

With the emergence of EE and Kep being Kep, what the hell do we do with Alex Gonzalez? Talking about this last night a couple of us (drunk) guys came to the conclusion that Kep not being a everyday player would help his BA get back up there. Not saying that Kep shouldn't see a vast majority of PT or that his BA is down that much.

AG's defense is vastly overrated and last year was his career year offensively. Plus he is old and expensive. He needs to be trade bait imo.

Mini slump or not Kepp is the better all around solution at SS.

Funniest damn Reds related thing I have seen in ages. If I spoke German this is my house during baseball season.

Figures we start to get the bats going a little and run into the freakin Mets. Cant quite catch a break. Who knows though maybe its one of those things where we can play up to our competition.

Arroyo Santana looks to be the only real brutal one...

Perez has always been great against us, but hopefully Cueto can throw well and we can get to Perez...

Just need to continue to try and win series...Take 2 of 3 or all 3...I know it is reaching, but that is what we need to do to get back towards .500...

Also we should bring up da Boss...

That's what I thought as well, but with the exception of 2004, his one very good season in the maors, he's actually not been very good against the Reds.

In 2004, in 5 games, he was 4-0 with a complete game shutout, logging 34 innings, allowing just 25 hits and 6 earned runs, 3 homers, 9 walks, 49 K's(!), and a 1.59 ERA.

Other than that season, he has pitched against the Reds in 11 games, going 4-3, with no other complete games, pitching 54-2/3 innings while allowing 60 hits and 40 runs (34 earned). He's given up 11 homers, 36 walks, and struck out 58 batters, with an ERA in these games of 5.67.

Hopefully the latter is what we see on Sunday.

Forget the other pitcher, we have Belisle, Arroyo and Cueto going in a 3 game set. That's all I need to know to confidently say we have a bad matchup in 2 of the 3 games. Also its Belisle then Arroyo then Cueto. That means by the time we get to Cueto the bullpen is more likely to blow it because they are going to be exhausted from the 8+ IP from the previous two nights. Which of course gives Dusty more of an excuse to pitch him farther than he should. It just never ends.

BTW, The Saturday game is so bad on paper we just might be ok. Arroyo vs Santana...during the day. Ouch baby, very ouch.

How about these pitching matchups
Belisle v Larry
Arroyo v Curly
Cueto v Moe
still no confidence?

Nope me either :(

Really though, if Belisle and Arroyo can keep the ball down, and Cueto can get by the first couple of innings, the Reds have a chance, if (huge if) their offense can give them some support.

OK, I know its probably a rain out(let's pray it is at least) but here is Dustys lineup for tonight.

No this is not a joke.

Hairston 2B
Freel RF
Patterson CF
Votto 1B
Encarnacion 3B
Dunn LF
Keppinger SS
Bako C
Belisle P

I refuse to watch that. I've been cutting Dusty some slack but this tears it, he's in the Boone, Miley, Narron category now. This is up there with Miley sitting JR and Dunn in Coors for Freel and Aurilia.

Patterson should never bat third for any MLB team ever...ever.

Fuck these bastards and fuck this know nothing, dipshit, pussnut, dicklicking front office that runs moron's like Dusty through here every 2 years.

I should have stuck to my guns and became a free agent when they hired Dusty like I said I would. What the fuck do you get for your loyalty to these incompetent fucks? Another 90+ loss season and then watch them fuck up every single chance to get better.

The GM should be able to go down stairs and fire any cocksucking manager the minute he sees a lineup card filled out like that. Fuck this shit.
