Just googled it...

It means a very easy popup catch, and the 'story' is that before supermarkets when small markets were prevalent with just one grocer, the canned corn would be stored on the top shelves because it lasted for a long time, and the grocer had to get these for customers because they were out of reach. The common way to do this was take a broomstick and knock the can toward you, catching it in the apron (the ends of which were pulled together to form a sort of glove.)

Damnit. I couldnt take posting earlier. I've got a very bad taste in my mouth after this series, it seems like alot of the players do too. Should've swept em without a dout. Volquez didnt have his best stuff today, maybe a slight hangover from the AS game or could've just been the heat like someone else mentioned. Either way it sucked.

E5 has been improved this season but lately he's reverting back to that half-assed effort in his throws. He better get out of that and fast!

Dunns on a tear, Phillips is a freaking superstar and the pitching isnt that bad except for clutch situations lately. We should wear some of these teams out in the next two weeks and climb back in it but will they keep it together or fall apart? I hope its the former.

We will be alright...You can look at it in a way of that we blew a couple games and we could of swept them, or just think that we took 2-2 from the hottest team in baseball and we are moving on to a very easy part of our schedule...

Lets just hope that we start bringing out the brooms in those series and we will be ok...

From what I've seen, who we play has little to do with how well we play. It's more like a coin flip on any given day. Maybe that will turn around, but I hope you're right.

That was all on David Ross. He shouldn't have been going in the first place - but once he started he had to commit to it. By going back to the bag he not only made an out anyway, but he hung Homer out to dry. If Ross holds, Bailey holds too and it's 2nd & 3rd with two outs. If he at least fully commits to being a dumbass and continues to the plate, Bailey would have made it to 3rd and it would have been 1st & 3rd with two outs.

EDIT: I was going to add that you also can't really blame Bailey because he's not used to being on base. Sadly, you could say the same for Ross if you wanted to.

Bailey pitched well tonight, Dusty left him in an inning to long IMO.

I still don't like that he looks like a kid who just got sent to his room whenever they take him out. Maybe he's just expressing the same type of frustration that other pitchers do when they start allowing hits/runs, but that's not the way it comes across from Bailey. Maybe that's something that will change with age.

A lot of people are down on him, and it seems to some like he's been around longer than he has. The point was made during his last starts that he's still only 22 years old, and that he was then only making his 13th career major league start (tonight being his 14th). To put that in perspective, that's less starts than Johnny Cueto has now made in his career. That's also less than the number of starts Volquez made while he was with the Rangers. This was his second decent start in a row, and granted this one game against one of the worst offenses in the league, but maybe we're starting to see the light bulb come on.

File under: Unintentional Humor

Grande and Welsh were questioning the move of having Fogg pinch hit to sacrifice Ross over to 2nd. Grande mused that Dusty did it to not waste a bat off the bench like Andy Phillips. Welsh's retort... Why not use Corey Patterson then?

Fogg failed to get the bunt down.
