Reds Tidbits (2008 season)

Fogg with 6 strong innings of 1 run baseball...

Listening to Kent Mercker in the box for the game...He made a comment about the team just needing to play together...I think that is right...We talk about dumping all these guys, dumping Baker, etc...Maybe we should give it a little time to try and work itself out...They seem to be playing better as the season goes on...

Now I think that we should get rid of Griff and try and get something for him while we can, but I would still be for resigning Dunn if we could, if not we need to try and get something for him...And maybe Arroyo...Other than that I keep things intact unless there is just an offer for Phillips, Harang, etc. that is too good to pass up...

He said that Votto and Bruce are still feeling their way...We have had injuries and lots of call ups this season...Now we are solid and playing well...Lets hope that it continues...

Agree on all points. I think listening to Merck puts some good perspective on it and he sounds totally sincere with his comments. I know he's not going to bad mouth the organization in the public, but you can tell by a guys tone when he's being truthful or not and Merck sounds pretty honest tonight.

Great comeback game for Fogg tonight!

Great catch by Bruce to keep Fogg in the game as well.

Somebody please tell me how Kyle freakin Lohse is 7-0 w 2.50 ERA in his last 7 games!?!?!

What does he have a bionic implant now or something? 10-2 on the season. Are our pitching coaches/methods really that bad that a guy like that can get a change of scenery and just become Cy Young? I hope thats not the case and if it is fire every damn one of them now! Well, except for Soto.

Two words: Dave Duncan. The man can turn dog shit into diamonds, just about.

How is Brandon Webb starting the All-Star Game? Over Volquez or Lincecum? He's a fine pitcher, but he's not quite having as great a season as either of those two.

Because he has done it over multiple years...This is really those twos first year for numbers like they have...

Reds rally to win third straight

Brandon Phillips singles in winning run in the bottom of the ninth; Josh Fogg inspires with solid outing.

CINCINNATI ? Willie Harris, subbing for the injured Elijah Dukes in left field, picked up Brandon Phillips' single just as Cincinnati's Jerry Hairston Jr. rounded third base Saturday night, July 5.
This bottom-of-the-ninth series of events began when Hairston singled to open the inning and stole second base. Jay Bruce struck out before Ken Griffey Jr. was intentionally walked and Phillips came up with one out.
The throw from Phillips' hit was close to Washington catcher Jesus Flores but skipped past him before Hairston slid into home plate and gave the Reds a 3-2 victory at Great American Ball Park. It was the Reds' third-straight win against the lowly Nationals, and it was very close to a momentum-killing out at the plate.

Gotta agree with Merk on just about all his points he made. The other thing listening to him, knowing that his career is coming to an end, I wonder how good Merker would be in the booth, couldn't be much worse than some of the guys we have now.
